It featured over 70 teams, including numerous local programs. Several players took advantage of this event to improve their rankings, gain exposure, and generate scholarship opportunities. In this article, we take a look at the 5 local prospects that boost their stock the most during the event.
- Jalen Cunningham Jalen Cunningham 6'3" | SG Coronado | 2021 State NV 6’2 SG SFBA 2021 – What Cunningham solidified in my mind is his signature skill. Over the last two years, even in his roughest stretches, he always had a strap. It wasn’t just his ability to make shots, his form and release could be described as textbook, and he was able to consistently make shots in every game. When you combine in that he is a better than average R&J athlete, and a 3.6 student, he certainly fits the mold of a stockriser.
- Kiree Huie 6’9 PF Desert Valley Prep 2021 – I liked his strength and activity. Huie didn’t really wow me with any one skill, it was a combination of his grit and effort when it came to rebounding the ball that attracted me to his game. It’s nothing pretty, but Huie is a big body, willing to compete that plays with a motor on both ends. He posted hard when he had the opportunity and was willing to bang with other post on the defensive end. When you factor in his size, there’s a program out there for him.
- Isaiah Dahl Isaiah Dahl 6'4" | SG Elko | 2022 State NV 6’3 SG Elko 2022 (featured image) – Dahl’s signature skill was his ability to shoot the basketball. He showed a quick release and did a good job of keeping his feet and hands shot ready. I also liked that he showed just enough slashing ability to keep defenders honest. Dahl drove the lane several times, finishing with his right or left hand with equal effectiveness.
- Taj DeGourville Taj DeGourville 6'4" | SF Red Rock Academy | 2024 State #203 Nation NV 6’3 SG Vegas Elite 2024 – When Degorville is good, he looks like a top prospect nationally. He’s a natural player that has an unbelievable feel for the game. He routinely made deep 3’s and tough shots for his team. His scoring and shooting have improved from 1 year ago, but perhaps what he doesn’t get enough credit for, is his passing ability. Degorville routinely threaded the needle, setting up teammates. He has good timing and touch on his passes, proving that he’s not just a willing one but a talented passer as well.
- Maximus Romero Maximus Romero 5'11" | PG Arbor View | 2024 State NV 5’9 PG Team Vegas 2024 – Spring Valley coach Paul Blair speaks very highly of Romero. I can see why, the PG has a natural feel for the game, he did well handling the ball against pressure and hit open teammates. Romero has a nice stroke from the outside, allowing him to knock down jumpers in catch and shoot situations. What I liked most was his production, Romero showed the ability to impact several areas of the game in positive ways.
