Shaker Heights opened its season on the road against Cornerstone Christian Academy Dec. 30. From the opening jump, it was all Raiders, including starting the game on an 11-0 run in the first three minutes of action. Once Cornerstone Christian was faced with a full-court press, that’s when the game really opened up for the Raiders. Alex Benson and Danny Young Jr.DannyYoung Jr.6'2" | PGShaker Heights | 2022StateOH headlined a 34-point first quarter and the rest was history.

Ball movement, physicality and tempo headlined a successful opening to the season for Shaker Heights, ultimately defeating the Patriots by a final score of 110-65. Here are a few players that stood out Wednesday afternoon.

Top Performers

Alex Benson | 6-4 Senior | Shaker Heights

Probably the most aggressive player I saw on the court Wednesday afternoon, Alex Benson was all over the ball, fighting for rebounds and loose balls in creating fast break opportunities for his team. The senior forward finished the game with a team-high 22 points, most of them coming inside the paint. Active hands-on defense and used his length to his advantage, creating a plethora of turnovers throughout the first half.

Jamail Spivey Jr | 5-11 Junior | Cornerstone Christian
