Other teams around the league return a lot of talent and depth, however. Lyndon reached the 2A sub-state finals and probably returns the most talent.
Preseason Co-Player of the Year:
Koen Hula Koen Hula 6'4" | PF Council Grove | 2022 State KS , junior, Council Grove:
Hula is a big man who moves with surprising agility and coordination. He earned honorable mention 3A as a sophomore, and then honed his skills even further with SSA Elite over the summer. He averaged 13.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game to lead Council Grove last year. He is really tough in the post and moves well in the lane to create opportunities.
Miles Kitselman, senior, Lyndon:
The 6-foot-5 Kitselman averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game last year, en route to honorable mention 2A honors. Like Hula, Kitselman is a big man who can overwhelm opponents in the lane. He makes his living on the boards and in the low block.
Returning stars:
Hadyn Bieling, senior, Council Grove:
The guard Bieling is a stat sheet stuffer in support of Hula. He scored 10.1 points per game as a junior, but it was everything else he did that made him so special. He pulled down 4.7 rebounds per game and led the Braves wth 2.9 steals and 3.4 assists per game.
Luke Detwiler, senior, Lyndon:
Detweiler earned honorable mention 2A honors, and returns to run the show for Lyndon. Like Bieling, Detwiler can do some of everything. He scored 13.2 points, and registered 4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a junior.
Dayton Logan, senior, Mission Valley:
One thing the Flint Hills League has in abundance is big, powerful post players. Add the 6-foot-5 Logan to the list. He was honorable mention 2A despite missing some of the season. He has good coordination and can pass as well as score and rebound in the lane. He runs and moves well for a big man.
Players to watch:
Cade Fischer, senior, West Franklin:
Fischer is a 6-foot-7 senior who rebounds from injury. In a limited number of games, he averaged 13.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last year. It will be fun to see what he can do if healthy in a league full of good big men.
Toby Miller, junior, Lyndon:
The deep and experienced Tigers return the 6-foot-3 Miller, who was a key contributor as a sophomore. He contributed 10.2 points and 5 rebounds a contest.
Landon Boss, sophomore, Osage City:
The top freshman in the league last year, the 6-foot-1 Boss led the Indians with 12 points and 6 rebounds per game as a starter last year.
