In this article we look at some of the top sophomore standouts:
Baye Fall Baye Fall 6'11" | C Luthern Christian | 2023 State #13 Nation CO Lutheran/CO
-The Senegal born post player has shades of Mo Bamba. He is freaky long with a maybe 7’6 wingspan and blocks anything near him. He moves like a wing and takes ridiculous long strides into the lane. On one play he took one step from the 3pt line and dunked the ball. He grabs every rebound in and out of his area and can cover out on the perimeter. He made one mid-range jumper on the weekend showing his upside as a shooter and actually handles the ball decently for his size.
Assane Diop Assane Diop 6'10" | PF Belleview Christian | 2023 State #107 Nation CO Belleview Christian/CO
-A long and tall soph with massive upside. He is a rim protector and blocks shots and rebounds at a high level. He is mostly a rim runner with monster dunks and was shockingly a very good passer. His FT stroke looked promising with his future shooting.
Osiris Grady Osiris Grady 6'7" | PF Coronado | 2023 #195 Nation UT Coronado/NV
-A bouncy soph has good hands and fought hard versus some of the top players. He is getting a more polished hook shot and is a way above the rim dunker. He is a natural shot blocker and is slowly making strides as a shooter. He is a way better passer then I thought and his competitive fire came out versus the best players and it was nice to see.
Dusty Stromer Dusty Stromer 6'5" | SG Notre Dame | 2023 State #47 Nation CA-S Sherman Oaks Notre Dame/CA
-A long guard with deep range. His length really bothers opposing guards driving the lane. He can pull-up off the dribble but is probably best off the catch. He is a sneaky good passer and can score it some inside. He grabs rebounds using his size and he is very crafty. He is definitely on the leaner side but his upside is extremely high with his range, feel and defensive potential.
Marcus Adams, Jr. Marcus Adams, Jr. 6'8" | PF Narbonne | 2023 State CA-S Narbonne/CA
-A highly skilled forward who is very fluid with huge hands and big feet. He has a soft touch around the the rim and can shoot it from the 3pt line. He rebounds anything near him and uses his thicker body. An incredible passer for his size and girth.
Isaac Hymes Isaac Hymes 6'9" | PF Phhoenix Prep | 2023 State AZ Millennium/AZ
-A budding young forward seems to be blossoming before our eyes. He already had the size and length but now his skills and coordination are kicking in. He showcased his shooting, driving, blocking shots and runs like a wing. If we do have an AIA season, look for him to shine for the Tigers.
Armari Carraway Armari Carraway 6'0" | PG San Joaquin Memorial | 2023 CA-N Pueblo/AZ (Pictured)
-Another soph locally who could make a huge splash in Tucson. He will be with two other standouts in Zach Morgan Zach Morgan 6'9" | C SoAZ Volz | 2021 State AZ and Marcus Coleman Marcus Coleman 5'11" | CG Pueblo | 2022 State AZ , but Carraway will give them an infusion of speed, scoring, defense and confidence.
