R J Davis the starting guard for the North Carolina Tar Heels after a very successful career at Stepinac HS. Currently, he is logging 30 minutes per game. He is shooting 38% from the field and 34 % from three. Seems to be getting more comfortable in the Roy Williams offense. Had his best game against Iowa putting up 12 points and 8 assists while also shooting 50% from the field. RJ has the skillset and talent to expand on those numbers.
Last year’s leading scorer and rebounder for Long Island Lutheran high school is now at Ohio State. Zed Key Zed Key 6'7" | PF Long Island Lutheran | 2020 State #106 Nation NY the 6”8 big body post player is making his presence felt. He is shooting 58% from the floor and pulling down 6 rebounds per game. Also showing a presence in the middle, getting a little over a block a game. Still getting accustomed to the quickness and physicality of the game in the Big Ten. But no doubt, it’s been a good start with a lot of promise.
Andre Curbello played with Zed will have to wait till mid January before he sees his former teammate. Andre (Illinois) with his ability to get to the basket, their first encounter might be both of them banging bodies. Andre is a guard posting a very impressive 61% from the floor while averaging 20 minutes per game. Plus getting 4 assists and 4 rebounds per game. Andre creates and is a facilitator with the ball in his hands. He is showing off his tremendous skill set and poise and will make a big impact in the Big Ten.
Making it a triple from Long Island Lutheran is California freshman Jalen Celestine Jalen Celestine 6'6" | SG Long Island Lutheran | 2020 State #352 Nation NY a 6”6 guard. To the credit of Cal’s coaching staff and the enormous potential of Jalen he signed with them before his senior year. Unfortunately he was injured his whole senior year. California and Coach Fox never flinched. He is still playing himself back into game shape and has been a little rusty. Has played a total of 14 minutes in 2 games and has not yet scored. But as he continues to practice and gets the rust off Cal should be rewarded for their good faith.
Ryan Myers is playing for legendary head coach Rick Pitino at Iona college. After a great career at NYC powerhouse Christ the King HS. His career has started off well. Ryan is playing 21 minutes a game and shooting 44% from the floor. He has the ball in hands a lot and at the end of the game that is important because he is shooting 88% from the stripe.
Having an excellent start for a player who almost was giving up his dream brings us to St. Johns University and Posh Alexander Posh Alexander 5'11" | PG Our Saviour Lutheran | 2020 State #158 Nation NY by way of (Our Savior Lutheran). After breaking his arm in his junior season and putting weight on Posh saw his recruiting ranking # slipping. A strong willed and extremely fierce competitor he became even more motivated. He quickly reappeared on lots of teams recruiting boards. St Johns acted on nothing else but looking at his skill set and no one can question that. Off to a incredible start Posh has the ball in his hands and is not afraid to take the last shot or make the extra pass or play to help get the team a win. Playing 31 minutes a game he is shooting 48% from the floor. He is stuffing the stat sheet as well 10 ppg, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. But he is doing it on the defensive side as well with 2 steals a game. Posh is a prototypical point guard from New York with the ability to score in bunches. So I feel these numbers will just continue to rise and Posh will see his name appearing on NBA boards when his college career is over.
