What are the stipulations? None, really. Regardless of position, here are the best players in the city (in my opinion). This is based off last season’s performance along with their play in the Bluegrass Fall League and Invite League.
- Christian Spalding Christian Spalding 6'4" | PG Evangel Christian | 2022 State KY , Eastern – Spalding is a traditional point guard with a high IQ who actually knows how to run a team. His coach lets him call a lot of the plays on offense and most of the Eastern offense revolves around Christian’s play making. He’s going to end up a solid mid major point guard or possibly higher.
- Maker Bar Maker Bar 6'9" | C Ballard | 2022 State KY , Ballard – After coming on the scene last season for the Bruins, Maker looks for an even better Junior campaign. The best post player in the city, Bar is long and athletic and is a good rim protector who keeps improving his overall skill level and could eventually be a stretch 4 as a prospect.
- Darien Lewis Darien Lewis 6'1" | PG Fern Creek | 2022 State KY , Fern Creek – The glue guy for the talented Tigers roster, Lewis should have a more impactful role on the offense with Zek Montgomery gone. Darien is a lethal mid range shooter and can create open looks for his teammates by attacking the paint and making the right play.
- Inslee Carroll Inslee Carroll 6'3" | SG Doss | 2022 State KY , Doss – The best player in the city who know one talks about, Carroll has a lot of upside but has to become a more complete player to make the climb up this list. Inslee shows flashes of being a high level scorer and has the physical assets to be a lockdown defender when he wants to be.
- Miles Franklin Miles Franklin 6'2" | PG Ballard | 2023 State KY , Trinity – Miles has struggled through injuries in his high school career but continues to show the player he can be eventually. A strong defender who can guard multiple positions and score at every level, Franklin has a chance to be a top player in the city.
- Andru Markham Andru Markham 6'4" | SG Fern Creek | 2022 State KY . Fern Creek – One of the most overlooked kids in the city, Markham took a little while to get back from his knee injury but looked like an improved version of his old self this summer. A good slasher who affects the game in a lot of ways, Andru is a candidate for a breakout season.
- Turrell Cleaves Turrell Cleaves 6'4" | SG Jeffersontown | 2022 State KY , Jeffersontown – Not to beat a dead horse but I continue to believe Cleaves has the potential to be the best player in the city, regardless of class. Athletically, he can be Jay Scrubb or David Johnson. If his motor gets running 100% of the time, Turrell will make a lot of people look bad for doubting him.
- Casey Steadmon Casey Steadmon 6'5" | SF Bethlehem | 2022 State KY , Jeffersontown – A high potential player who struggled to find a role after transferring from Fern Creek, I have high expectations for Casey as a Junior. As a prospect, Steadmon needs to work in the weight room and bulk up but he has great positional size and always plays hard.
- Kennedy Hayden Kennedy Hayden 6'3" | CG Ballard | 2022 State KY , Ballard – Hayden and Cleaves are a lot alike. Both are blessed with great physical gifts and have a chance to make huge impacts in their Junior seasons. “Keno” has sat and waited his turn at Ballard and could be a breakout candidate this season in the 7th region.
- Gage Mabry Gage Mabry 6'2" | SG Evangel Christian | 2022 State KY , Jeffersontown – The latest transfer into J-Town is a long shooter who has the ability to score in bunches. Gage is going to have a chance to get more notoriety at J-Town than he did at Spencer County and he could take advantage of the opportunity and become a true difference maker in the 6th region.
