In our weekly CenTex Roundup series, we highlight some of the top scorers from the Austin-San Antonio Metroplex who impressed during that given week of the season. Today’s article features a talented group of guards who lit up opponents for 30+ this past week, as well as an up-and-coming and underrated power forward prospect on the rise.
Here are the top five scorers from Week 4:
TJ Johnson TJ Johnson 6'6" | SF Belton | 2022 State TX | SG | Belton (2022)
Johnson by far had the performance of the week with a highly impressive 43 points in Belton’s 77-57 win over Cedar Creek. Johnson scored from all three levels, including swishing a few shots from beyond-the-arc, and he even had a posterizing one-handed dunk in the second quarter. The junior guard continues to be a highly efficient scorer from the floor and is consistently proving to be a playmaker for Belton on the offensive side of the court.
Edward Hart | PF | Alamo Heights (2022)
Hart flexed his scoring prowess last week with his 34 point performance in a tough loss where Alamo Heights’ fell 75-68 to Saint Mary’s Hall. Hart hit 70% of his shots from the field, going 16-of-23, where he scored 32 of his points from the paint and mid-range. The 6’5″ junior power forward has been a beast for the Mules this season averaging 16.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while knocking down 53% of his shots during non-district play.
Jailen Bedford Jailen Bedford 6'4" | SG Hutto | 2022 State TX | SG | Hutto (2021)
Bedford leads the Hippos in scoring this season and had his best game yet with 33 points in Hutto’s 77-70 win over Copperas Cove. The senior shooting guard has been lighting it up from three-point range and continued his hot shooting streak by hitting 5-of-8 from beyond-the-arc against the Bulldawgs. Not only did Bedford nail shots from deep and in the mid-range, but he also showed some nice bounce on a fast break dunk in the first half. Bedford came into the season as an underrated prospect in Texas, but he is quickly showing why he should be considered as one of the top senior guards in the Austin-Metroplex.
Aaron San Miguel | SG | Jefferson (2022)
The top scorer in the San Antonio-Metroplex so far through the first four weeks, San Miguel has been torching opponents this season averaging 26.4 points through nine games played. He had one of his highest-scoring games of the year last week in the 32 point performance against Madison. The junior shooting guard hit three shots from beyond-the-arc in the contest and was clutch from the charity-stripe nailing 13 free throws. San Miguel is making a name for himself this season proving to be one of the best shooters in the area.
Shane Perales Shane Perales 6'0" | PG South San Antonio | 2022 State TX | PG | South San Antonio (2022)
Perales accounted for half of South San Antonio’s points in their dominant 62-36 win over Hays last week. The junior point guard’s 31 points against the Rebels was the third game this season he recorded 30+ points, and even though his shot from deep wasn’t hitting like it was in previous games, he was still managed to put up a bunch of points on the scoreboard. Whether it’s pull-up shots off the dribble or nailing a jumper in the mid-range, Perales is showing that he is a big-time scoring threat from all over the half-court.
