In this series we’ll provide evaluations on the best available prospects in their final season of high school competition.
Caleb Nelson Caleb Nelson 6'7" | SF Carlsbad | 2021 State CA-S , Carlsbad – Vastly-improved shooter from the wing position whose strong frame allows him to be an inside-out type of scorer. Has shown to create mismatch problems at the four-spot at the high school level with his pick-and-pop shooting ability. High motor guy on both ends who crashes the offensive and defensive boards. Strength allows him to compete inside defensively against forwards and centers.
Jeremiah Davis Jeremiah Davis 6'3" | SG Fountain Valley | 2021 State CA-S , Fountain Valley – Versatile wing scorer who can create shots for himself off the bounce in isolation. Best when shifting his way to the rim and finishing around defenders or stopping and popping a pull-up jumper. Can initiate offense as needed, but doesn’t project as a full-time point guard at the next level. Great at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. Needs to improve catch-and-shoot 3-point shot.
Langston Redfield Langston Redfield 6'3" | PG Capistrano Valley | 2021 State CA-S , Capistrano Valley – One of the higher IQ players in all of Orange County. Great passing feel and all-around basketball IQ on both offense and defense. Understands how to control the pace of the game from the PG position. Doesn’t over-handle, advances the ball in transition and always seems to make the right play. Great defensive instincts and good rebounder for his position. Biggest concerns are a lack of offensive package, including a shaky perimeter jump shot.
Hayden Gray Hayden Gray 6'2" | PG Santa Fe Christian | 2021 State CA-S , Santa Fe Christian – Crafty and high IQ point guard who plays the position in its true capacity. Pass-first guy whose open court and half-court vision stand out when executing drive-and-kick opportunities of hit ahead passes on the break. Not overly quick or explosive, but understands how to use angles and changes of speed and direction to get where he wants on the floor. A better athlete than he looks at first glance and can finish around the basket with either hand. Must improve three-point shooting off the bounce out of high ball-screen action.
