Everybody has a say in who will surely will win and what rankings should look like. But do you know who people aren’t talking about, but they should? Woodbury and their leader Bradley Cimperman Bradley Cimperman 6'5" | SG Woodbury | 2021 State MN .
When people throw out “best team in Section 4AAAA” the teams instantly brought up are East Ridge and Cretin-Derham Hall. But don’t mind me saying, Woodbury is right there with them as section title contenders.
“Our team is looking great this year, we have five guys who already have lots of varsity experience and lots of team chemistry, as well as some nice players to come in off the bench,” Cimperman said.
East Ridge returns three starters plus they have some future college basketball players – both younger and older – coming up from their junior varsity (it will make them a state contender). Cretin-Derham Hall replaces a lot but they have my pick for the best player in Class AAA basketball in Tre Holloman Tre Holloman 6'2" | PG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State #57 Nation MN .
But did you know?
- Woodbury was 19-9 last year
- Woodbury returns four starters
- Woodbury beat Cretin-Derham Hall last year and lost to East Ridge by two scores
- Woodbury enters the season a top 15 team in Class AAAA basketball
Cimperman and the Royals have big goals.
“My main goal for this season is to win the conference and show everyone how good Woodbury really is,” Bradley said
Coach Kent Getzlaff is excited about what Cimperman can do for his team this season.
“Bradley is a good three-point shooter who also uses his height and length to finish in the paint. He’s rapidly improving his ball handling, and rebounding, which is going to help him find even more ways to score this season. Bradley is the vocal leader of the team and sets a great example of hard work on and off the court.”
Cimperman led the Royals at Breakdown Fall League and he’s a weight room constant. A lot of his work ethic has been a result of the Woodbury staff guidance.
“I’ve been playing in the breakdown fall league with Woodbury, lifting every day and getting a lot of shots up to get ready for this season,” Cimperman said. “The Woodbury coaching staff has made me the player I am today by always pushing me and telling me what I need to do to help the team and perform better myself.”
Bradley averaged 16 points and six rebounds a game as a junior, and college coaches are excited about his potential.
“I’ve been hearing a lot from Bemidji State University, University of Jamestown, and St. John’s University. I’m going to wait for the season to get going, see how I’ve been playing and make my decision after some games have gone by.”
