Brayson Laube Brayson Laube 6'2" | PG Marion | 2023 State IA , Marion High School (2023)
A sophomore who I’ve been high on since watching him all summer and fall, Laube came out firing in the season opener against Denver this past Tuesday. He tallied 28 points on 6/10 from 3 and a staggering 11/19 from the field overall. In the game against the Cyclones Laube led the charge cutting into the deficit and eventually coming up short losing 86-81. Laube proved he could be not only a top 2023, but a top player in the state’s Class 3A.
Alex Mota, Marion High School (2023)
In the game I watched against Denver, Mota had an immediate impact off the bench. I had seen Mota play in the summer with the Barnstormers and always thought he could be a good player, but he seems to be growing in his game starting off this season. His athletic frame, and ability to take defenders on and score around the rim will be important for the Indians. So far Mota is averaging 12 points, 3 rebounds, 72.7% FG, and 62.5% 3pt.
Zach Lutmer Zach Lutmer 6'1" | PG Central Lyon | 2023 State IA , Central Lyon High School (2023)
Simply put Lutmer is the car that drives the offense for the Lions. He was a big part of his team leading for most of the game against the defending Class 2A champs, Boyden-Hull. Lutmer was taking defenders off the dribble, getting to the hoop, dishing to teammates, and hitting a couple jumpshots. There are not totals reported for this game yet, but when they are I can imagine his numbers will reflect being arguably the best player on the court on Friday.
Drew Kingery Drew Kingery 6'4" | SF Indianola | 2023 State IA , Indianola High School (2023)
Though he struggled from the field shooting wise, Kingery made a way to impact the game in a positive way on Saturday. He was 6/16 (37.5% FG) but did go 5/6 (83.3%) from the FT line. I liked the way that Kingery, at 6’4, is able to get the ball and run the offense helping his team get a good shot. He showed good 1-v-1 ability, and played tough defense throughout the game. He was flexible at one point being the big man, and another running the point and that’s something to say about his position flexibility. He ended up leading his team in points with 17, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. He will be a key for opponents every game this season to stop.
