In eastern Idaho, there were a lot of tough matchups between cross-town rivals and players that have been waiting for a long time to be able to play basketball again. In northern Idaho, teams had to get creative and there were a lot of matchups featuring teams from vastly different classifications squaring up and attempting to secure the first win of the season. After watching a few of these games, I wanted to highlight some of the top scoring performances on display in the first week of competition.
In the east, Lloyer Driggs took no time at all to get going. He posted a great stat line while securing a win for Thunder Ridge with 24 points and knocking down 4 out of 5 three pointers on the night. Additionally, Taden King Taden King 6'4" | PG Madison | 2021 State ID from Madison displayed a barrage of bombs from deep en route to a 22 point performance in a tough loss to Hillcrest. Perhaps he was outshined by a 25 point performance from Cooper Kesler of the Hillcrest Knights. At the lower classification levels, Blazen Burgess dropped 22 points for Salmon and was aided by teammate Boone Gamett who scored 18 points while securing a victory over Butte County.
Up north, Trentyn Kreager Trentyn Kreager 6'2" | SG Priest River | 2022 State ID dropped 24 points along with 11 rebounds, while his teammate Travis Mathews nearly notched a triple double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists for Priest River. On the opposing side, Brad Tesky scored 19 points for Wallace and both teams fought hard during a tough game.
Altogether, the first week of competition highlighted some great scoring performances and a solid foundation for the rest of the season. Many teams across the state will be beginning their season later this week and I expect to see a lot of other great scoring outings happening throughout the season.
