It also featured several quality bigs. In this article, PH takes a look at the top big men from the event.
Robert Vaihola 6’7 PF Team Arsenal 2021 – An under-recruited big with a variety of skills. Love his patience in the post, Vaihola did a great job of catching, waiting, and then making the right read. When the double came he showed exceptional skill to find the open man and then hit him with a pinpoint pass. When it didn’t come he punished the defender. Good size and athletic ability, Vaihola is going to be a major steal for somebody.
Eddie Kurjak 6’8 PF Colorado TItan 2021 – I absolutely love Kurjak. Plays with a high motor is a fluid rim runner and an above-average athlete. He showed a little bit of everything over the weekend, protecting the rim, rebounding, and finishing in transition.
Trey Booker 6’4 PF Day Hawks 2021 – Booker certainly looks the part. The undersized post has a muscular frame, to go along with his quick-twitch muscles. He gets off the ground extremely quickly and used that explosiveness to compete for rebounds and to finish around the rim.
Jose Murillo Jose Murillo 6'8" | C Highland | 2022 State NM 6’9 PF Team Nike Swoosh 2022 – Murrillo was one of the strongest players at the event. He did a great job of battling post players down low. While perhaps not the athlete as someone like Booker, he did a great job of rotating, contesting, and blocking shots all weekend.
Josh Pemberton 6’6 PF Washington Supreme 2021 – What he does isn’t necessarily sexy, but it doesn’t go unnoticed. Pemberton did a great job of playing fundamentally sound. He blocked out for defensive rebounds and did a great job of using his footwork down low. The 6’6 post even scored off an old-school Kevin McHale up and under.
Dillon Wilhite Dillon Wilhite 6'8" | C Cathedral Catholic | 2021 State CA-S 6’9 C Gamepoint Elite 2021 – Wilhite has an impressive frame and was one of the strongest players on the weekend. He changes ends of the court well and played with good activity and a high motor.
Isaiah Carr Isaiah Carr 6'11" | C Las Cruces | 2022 State NM 6’11 C Team Nike Swoosh 2022 (featured image) – Carr was the main attraction this weekend. He didn’t dominate, but he proved that he is one of the elite shot blockers in the nation. Carr was able to impact the game with his ability to erase and alter shots. He also showed glimpses of ball skills, and shooting, handling a little against pressure, and making a couple of 3’s. High ceiling player that may end up being better at the next level.
