We will take a look at some of the guards throughout the day who helped lead the way for their teams in these big time matchups.
Kyan Evans Kyan Evans 6'2" | PG Staley | 2023 State MO , 6’ 2023 Guard, Staley: Evans is already an electric performer from the guard spot, and with plenty of time left on his high school career he is poised to make quite a statement during his time at Staley. On Saturday, in the marquee matchup with BNVW squad, Evans brought it, especially in the second half where he scored 9 of his 13 points. He hit 3 threes in the ball game which are a great compliment to his speed with the ball off the dribble, and showed his mental toughness drilling a couple of huge shots late to keep Staley in striking distance. He is growing as a defender as well, getting a knack for containing the dribble for most of the ball game.
Israel Randle, 5’10 2023 Guard, Lincoln Prep: Another young guard who was making plays on the day, Randle got the show going early in the day for the Blue Tigers. He set the tone early on defense with active hands, talking, and flying around causing disruption and confusion early for Barstow. On Saturday he showed the ability to knock down the open catch and shoot three, but where he made his mark on the offensive end was attacking the defense off of the bounce, getting into gaps and drawing help to dish it off to teammates for open looks or using his creative finishing ability to score in the paint. Randle made a huge play late in overtime to secure the win attacking from the top of the key, splitting two defenders and finishing at the rim.
Jayden Dukes, 6’1 2022 Guard, McPherson: Dukes is a really athletic and explosive point guard who plays off teammate Seth Madron Seth Madron 6'2" | SG Mcpherson | 2022 State KS really well, both have a great chemistry on the floor, and Dukes is really good at reading teammates on back cuts and hitting them for assists. The McPherson guard is a good defender and contains the ball as well as bumps cutters off their lines and can obstruct layups at the rim. He is springy as well and can get up off the bounce and finishes well. Dukes was well poised throughout the game which went into overtime and was not afraid to handle the ball in tight spots. He also through a beautiful lob to Madron for a dunk.
Emmett Pearce, 5’11 2022 Guard, Barstow: Pearce came alive in the fourth quarter starting the final frame off with 7 quick points which helped Barstow get the spark they needed to get the game into the overtime period. Pearce is a hard nosed guard who plays extremely tough on the floor and physical. He has a good idea of where to be at on the floor during drives or when coming off screens and spaces the floor well and rewarded himself knocking down a couple of 3 pointers off great floor spacing. The Barstow guard also puts his head and is very deliberate on his drives and gets to his spots using his physicality and makes plays.
Jeremiah Randle, 5’11 2021 Guard, Lincoln Prep: Randle had his 3 point stroke going early in the ball game against Barstow knocking down some in the first half. He was a spark plug at the start of the game for the Blue Tigers especially in the transition game. he was another guard for them who flew around on defense and caused turnovers, he was also really good getting himself out into transition.
Cahmai Crosby, 6’3 2023 Guard, Park Hill South: The 6’3 Crosby got things going in a big way for the Panthers in their marquee matchup with Blue Valley. The talented guard scored 10 of 15 points in the first quarter including drilling two 3’s in the process. His quick start to the ball game got his team going with crazy momentum building plays en route to a win in a big game.
Bryce Dickerson Bryce Dickerson 6'1" | CG Olathe South | 2021 State KS , 5’10 2021 Guard, Olathe South: Dickerson was a steady solid presence during their big win over McPherson in overtime. He is a great compliment to his point guard counter part Luke Williams Luke Williams 6'0" | PG Olathe South | 2021 State KS , especially with his physicality, rebounding ability from the guard spot, and more straight line drive ability. Dickerson scored well on Saturday playing of of two feet in the paint which is a great quality to have in your game, and he also hit timely threes on the evening.
