The Crusaders didn’t look rusty and took care of business, defeating Collierville, 64-51, to improve to 3-0.
Here are three takeaways from the FACS Crusaders’ win over the Dragons.
Great ball movement by FACS.
Like Christian Brothers, MUS, ECS and other private schools I have seen this season, the Crusaders move the ball exceptionally well and are looking for a great shot, instead of a quick shot. Each player on the floor moved well on the court without the basketball and communicated with one another on most of the team’s possessions.
As a team, FACS made six 3s in the win and simply had balance on the offensive end. The Crusaders recorded 17 assists on 28 made field goals.
Senior guard Josh Ward led FACS with 18 points. Junior wing Daniel Egbuniwe had 17, and junior guard Kobe Wilkes Kobe Wilkes 6'0" | PG FACS | 2022 State TN added 12.
Quick start for FACS.
The Crusaders followed the same format the Purple Wave used in Tuesday night’s road win at Collierville by simply jumping out on the scoreboard and never looking back. FACS used a 9-0 run to jump out to a 16-6 lead to end the first quarter. In the second quarter, junior guard Corey Savage and Wilkes made back-to-back 3s to push their team’s lead to 28-8.
Collierville can turn these losses into positives.
After starting the season 7-0, the Dragons have dropped two straight to quality opponents. Second-year head coach Scottie Robinson put together the best non-league schedule he could have put together in an unusual season. Playing stout competition gives Collierville a glimpse of what to prepare for once league play kicks in. The Dragons can only go forward from here.
On Wednesday, seniors Davon Barnes and Jordan Jenkins each scored 11 points to lead Collierville.
