Week one got off to a hot start giving us plenty of highlight plays, some upset wins, along with several high scoring and breakout performances. Here are just a few forwards that had an impactful or breakout performance during the opening week.
North Crowley 71, Fort Worth Dunbar 60
Jacob Keys | Point Guard | Fort Worth Dunbar | 2021 |
Tough, speedy guard Jacob Keys got the season started off in the right direction when he ripped the ball away on the very first play of the game, flew down the court, and finished the layup through two defenders. Keys was in full attack mode all game long, everything he did was extremely quick and fast, whether he was picking his man’s pocket, dishing the ball out, or going up with a shot while on the move. Jacob broke a few ankles early by catching defenders off guard with his super-speed and quickness. The Dunbar point guard excels when playing in an up-tempo game where he can push the ball up the floor, come down the court with a full head of steam, and get to the basket where he’s a good finisher with either hand. Jacob Keys is the floor general for his team and he plays with a lot of confidence, heart, and passion for the game.
North Forney 74, Wylie East 59
| Jeremy Sims | Point Guard | North Forney | 2021 |
North Forney’s lefty point guard Jeremy Sims, played with a lot of heart, he didn’t give up on plays, and when he made a mistake on offense he quickly tried to make up for it on the defensive end. Jeremy was at his best in transition where he had the entire floor to make a play whether it was passing or scoring. His ability to convert tough shots near the basket was outstanding, good touch and great body control when finishing through contact and other players. Jeremy Sims also displayed quality floor general like tendencies with the way he directed the offense with and without the ball.
DasCHE 70, Newman International Academy 65
| Nate Cannon | Shooting Guard | DasCHE | 2022 |
This sharpshooter’s shots started falling in the second half where just about everything he put up was money in the bank. Nate Cannon was the third leading scoring for DasCHE in this game, his scoring was the key in the comeback victory over Newman International, finishing the competition with 12 points. Cannon found his scoring opportunities simply by being at the right spot at the right time and more often than not, he capitalized off of it.
Dorien Goodman Dorien Goodman 5'10" | PG Lancaster | 2022 State TX | Point Guard | Lancaster | 2022 |
Dallas Lincoln High School transfer, Dorien Goodman Dorien Goodman 5'10" | PG Lancaster | 2022 State TX , made his season debut as a Lancaster Tiger and he didn’t disappoint. Dorien was a handful to stop or slow down early on in the game, his knack for getting through traffic and to the basket led him to the free-throw line all first half. Goodman plays with a fantastic pesky defensive presence, he makes at least one eye-popping play defensively every game. Against Arlington Martin, he got into player’s heads fairly easily due to his relentlessness and ability to sell a foul just as it’s taught. Dorien Goodman Dorien Goodman 5'10" | PG Lancaster | 2022 State TX ’s intangibles are off the chart, being able to play alongside a player like Wade Taylor Wade Taylor 6'0" | PG Lancaster | 2021 State #103 Nation TX for a season will be a huge benefit for Goodman, his progression, and his understanding of the game of basketball.
