In some cases there are just a ton of talented upperclassmen in front of them. So many things can factor into this. Here we dive into a group of top prospects at each position that have not played varsity or maybe just a couple games. Check out our Varsity Newcomers: Top Wing Prospects!
Patrick Robinson Patrick Robinson 6'4" | SG Oswego East | 2022 State IL . (Oswego East – 2022)
Robinson is the type of player this list is all about. He didn’t play at all last year for an Oswego East team that had a ton of seniors. After watching his film on the sophomore level though we still gave him a top 50 ranking. Then he went out and proved against quality competition for Hoops Intensity Training that he is a legit D1 guy. Look for the strong bodied scorer to light up the scoreboards this year.
Matas Buzelis Matas Buzelis 6'9" | SF Sunrise Christian | 2023 #2 Nation NLG (Hinsdale Central – 2023)
Buzelis has high major offers already before even playing a varsity basketball game. The Hinsdale Central wing has excellent size at 6’8″ with great skill on the perimeter and big time bounce. Can play on or off the ball effectively. Buzelis might be the best prospect to come out of Hinsdale Central in a long time.
Sam Lewis Sam Lewis 6'5" | SF Oak Park River Forest | 2023 State IL (OPRF – 2023)
Lewis is a projectable wing with great length and smooth athleticism. What we like most about him is his long term upside. He isn’t there yet, but has the potential to be a D1 player down the line.
Jordan Streeter Jordan Streeter 6'6" | SF Whitney Young | 2022 State IL (Whitney Young – 2022)
The first of three Dolphins here. Plus size and athleticism on the perimeter. Really good defender that can guard multiple spots. Offensively he is a problem in transition as a wing finisher running the floor hard. So explosive with his downhill game.
Matt Somerville Matt Somerville 6'6" | SF Whitney Young | 2022 State IL (Whitney Young – 2022)
All around quality athlete that made an impact on both ends. He is quick to the offensive glass for put backs. Can make dishes off a live dribble. Feathery pull up mid-range game. Explosive athleticism shows on the defensive end.
Kanye Smith Kanye Smith 6'6" | SF Whitney Young | 2022 State IL (Whitney Young – 2022)
Smith is the ultimate unknown in this class. Early on he was starting next to now high majors Avila and Casey on Meanstreets frontline. He looks the part with his length and athleticism, but has never turned it into production. Big year ahead for him!
