While we are just scratching the surface with this list, here’s a look at 6 guys I believe need to be getting more recruitment at the division one level as the season is about to start.
Christian Moore Christian Moore 6'1" | CG Cape Henry | 2021 State VA | 6’0” PG | Cape Henry
Moore has been one of the top guards in the state since he stepped on the floor as a freshman at Cape, and he’s a guy who will fill it up against pretty much anyone put in front of him. He’s a crafty shot maker that can knock it down from deep both on and off the basketball, he changes speeds well and gets in the lane at will and he’s a guy who can finish among the trees and finds his way to the line with regularity. He recently picked up an offer from Army but the high academic kid should have a plethora of Patriot and Ivy offers along with others at this point.
Quentin Livingston Quentin Livingston 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2021 State VA | 6’5” WF | King’s Fork
Livingston is one of the most versatile wings in the state and is coming off of a big time performance in the second session of the CBG Fall Series where he was fantastic as a scorer, rebounder and defender. He’s a guy who can handle or play off the ball, he can make shots from all over the floor, he’s an athletic finisher and defender and when he’s clicking he can dominate in a number of ways. He holds offers from Norfolk State, Hampton and Mount Olive but the way he’s been playing recently he should have more coming his way soon.
Dana Woodley Dana Woodley 6'4" | SG John Marshall | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WG | John Marshall
Woodley is a guy who is under the radar for a number of reasons including the fact that he plays on a very talented high school team, but his tools for the next level are something you can’t question and he has a chance to be a very good player in the long term. He has a great frame at 6’4” with good strength, he makes shots and can slash in straight lines and he’s freakishly athletic and can simply make plays above the rim that 95% of players can’t make. He needs some polishing up but the fact that he’s only looking at some division two offers makes absolutely no sense.
Anour Mellouk | 6’7” F | Fork Union
Mellouk is perhaps the best kept secret in VA, and his upside and long term potential makes me believe he could be a steal for whatever school recruits him at the next level. He’s a natural athlete with good size and length, he can play way above the rim on both ends of the floor and he showed he can make shots from deep and attack off the bounce as well. He projects to be a multi positional guy who is just scratching the surface with how good he can be, and he’ll have a chance to show that with a bigger role this year at FUMA.
Xzavier Long Xzavier Long 6'6" | PF VA Academy | 2021 State VA | 6’5” F | VA Academy
Long is criminally underrated and under recruited, and it isn’t just me that thinks this it’s pretty much the entire Prep Hoops VA and MD staff that thinks that. His game is best described as versatile, as he’s a guy who can play much bigger than his 6’5” frame suggests in the paint, and he also has guard skills that makes him a mismatch against smaller or slower guys on the perimeter. He can create his own shot, he rebounds well and he’s a good passer at his position as well.
Dominic Stanford Dominic Stanford 6'4" | SG Kempsville | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WG | Kempsville
Stanford is a guy who just hasn’t had enough opportunity to show what he can do in front of coaches, and he was one of those kids that was really hurt by not having a live period this summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is considering the prep route because of a lack of exposure opportunities, however if the right coach sees him they may pull the trigger because he has all the tools to be a division one two guard moving forward. He’s big and athletic on the wing and plays above the rim, he has deep range and can shoot it at a high clip from deep and he’s shown an improvement in his motor on the glass and the defensive end as well.
