A great opportunity for players that feel like they are underexposed to get, not only some exposure, but also an evaluation and a honest projection of what level they should expect to play on in college. These camps really do a good job of putting players in high pressure situations to see how they respond when they are tired and under duress. They say that “pressure burst pipes,” but pressure also produces diamonds, and that is what these camps are all about. After speaking with Coach V and his staff, here are the top 9 prospects from the Fall Camps and their assessment of each player.
Petia Dogale Petia Dogale 6'7" | PF Round Rock | 2021 State TX
6’7 SF | Austin HS | 2021
Most dominant big man that attended the camp. He attacked the glass all day and has very good defensive instincts. Petia is a LM / MM athlete that really defends at a high level and goes for every rebound. Immediate impact player as a rebounder and defender at level NAIA/D2 with room to grow. If you have a year to polish his offensive game then he’s a four year steal. If he goes JUCO, based on size, athleticism and motor he could end up a LM D1 prospect as his perimeter game improves. Very under recruited right now in this class where size and motor are hard to find.
Coach V’s Assessment: Petia’s best FIT would be a 4 year program that turns defense into offense by creating turnovers and pushing off misses. If you need an impact defender and rebounder this is your guy.
Jailen Bedford Jailen Bedford 6'4" | SG Hutto | 2022 State TX
6’3 SG | Hutto HS | 2021
One of the camp’s favorite 2-Way players that officially sold the staff at the ATX Camp. Coach V came into the camp with the intent of stressing him to see how high his potential really is regarding the next level. He’s been to several camps and is a next level player without a doubt, but Coach V wanted to put on the recruiting coordinator hat at this stage and get a final evaluation. He’s a no brainer in the 2021 class at the NAIA D1 or D2 level if you need a combo. Must get more consistent on his 3pt shot but that will come with his drive to improve. Each camp he has made progress and competes on every possession. Just too much size, skill and most importantly “WILL” to not have him on your radar.
Coach V’s Assessment: Bedford will have several offers in the Spring if no one pulls the trigger this fall. Jailen’s best FIT is a 4 out 1 in type system where you like to switch on D at times and let your players make plays. He’s capable of playing the 1-3 on offense and defense and will have a great 4 year career at the next level.
Aaron Hutchinson
6’0 PG | Klein HS | 2021
Really good open court scoring PG that finishes strong and can really guard the ball. He knows how to run a team, shoots it with range and could end up with several
scholarship options this Spring. Aaron has the potential to be more consistent on both ends once he is back to being in tip top shape condition wise.
Coach V’s Assessment: When he’s fresh he looks like a D2+ / NCAA LM D1 guard so follow his progress. As his conditioning improves his stock will rise because the talent is undeniable. Great kid that wants to figure it out so my gut is he will be putting up big numbers in 2021 at Klein HS.
Jackson Mayes
6’4 SF | Waller HS | 2021
Back to back skills challenge winner in both the Houston & ATX Camp. Mayes came in the camp as an unknown and left ATX with several small college coaches recruiting him. His skill set is legit, he understands how to use angles on offense and can score in a variety of ways. He impressed College Coaches on staff at both camps with his effort, IQ and ability to take advantage of mismatches by going inside and out. Jackson is just a solid all-around basketball player who is coming off an injury and is under the radar.
Coach V’s Assessment: Mayes has D2 upside and will be a steal for any D3 program as the season progresses. Jackson’s best FIT is in a half court offensive and defensive system where coaches recruit big wings that are versatile on offense and can guard multiple positions.
Joshua Bennett
6’2 Combo Guard | West Mesquite HS | 2021
From start to finish Joshua was the most UnCommon Prospect at the camp. He played hard, led his groups in all situations and communicated like a leader should on both ends. Although he plays the PG for his HS team, he is more of a combo at the next level with his ability to score the ball. He shoots the three with range and if you pressure Joshua, he gets in the paint and makes the right play. The trait that stood out the most was how engaged he was on the defensive end along with being talented on offense, which is why he was voted the unanimous DFW Top Prospect by the coaching staff.
Coach V’s Assessment: Right now all NAIA D1’s should be recruiting him and NCAA D2’s that have a year to develop a PG should have Joshua on their radar. If he goes JUCO based on size, athleticism and motor he could end up a LM D1 prospect as he fills out physically. Joshua’s best FIT would be in an open offense where you recruit guards that make plays instead of running them every possession. One of the top under the radar 2-Way Players from the Fall Camps whose stock will rise in 2021.
Kenyon Williams
6’5 SF | Euless Trinity HS | 2021
Kenyon has the size, athleticism and versatility to guard multiple positions and can play the 2-4 on offense. This was his 2nd camp and again he impressed the coaching staff with his competitive spirit from start to finish. He plays with a high motor, crashes the boards from the wing spot and scores it in a variety of ways.
Coach V’s Assessment: If he goes JUCO, I could easily see him developing his perimeter skills and end up at a LM D1 program. Right now he’s a no brainer for any NAIA or NCAA D2 that plays fast and presses on defense. Kenyon’s best FIT is in a fast paced system where you turn defense into offense, switch screens and get out a push in transition. His versatility on both ends and competitive spirit will get him on several radars this Spring.
Marcus Rigsby Marcus Rigsby 6'2" | SG Irving MacArthur | 2021 State TX
6’3 Combo Guard | Irving MacArthur HS | 2021
A tough one to evaluate in a one day setting, but no question the most talented prospect at the DFW Camp. Marcus is a D1 athlete with size that shoots it with range and bullies smaller defenders in the paint. His future and where he ends up will depend on how committed he is in all facets of the game. Marcus dominated throughout the event on natural talent alone without ever playing to his maximum potential.
Coach V’s Assessment: NCAA D1’s should have him on their board as the talent is undeniably there and he wanted to be coached. Could end up a MM prospect if he commits to guarding the other team’s best player and leads MacArthur on a deep run in 2021. Marcus’s best FIT is a program that spreads it out and shoots the 3 on offense, plays tough physical man defense & will be patient for a year in developing his overall game. If you are looking for the most physically talented 2’s available in Texas stop by MacArthur this Fall.
Alex Tsynkevich
6’9 F | Spring Creek Academy | 2021
Finally a big man that plays BIG. Alex didn’t do things he couldn’t do, had no desire to float to the perimeter and shoot 3’s, he just dominated the entire camp in the paint where he is most effective. He came in unknown and when the camp was over, the staff was shocked that he didn’t already have several LM D1 offers. Throughout the camp he consistently showed the ability to read the defense, pass it out of double teams or score it at will in one on one situations. Very efficient scorer with a soft touch and great footwork inside.
Coach V’s Assessment: Alex will need the right system at the next level but without a doubt is a LM / MM prospect. Again, the most impressive thing unlike other big’s at some of my camps is Alex wanted to mix it up in the paint which always drew 2 or 3 defenders. He engaged hard, pinned on ball reversals and demanded the basketball inside instead of floating to the 3pt line when bumped. Alex’s best FIT is a half court team that runs a High-Low type of offense and plays pack line defense. If you need a scoring big in the 2021 class find film asap on big Alex as he won’t be available long.
Jayce Wright
6’3 Combo Guard | Killeen Ellison HS | 2021
Jayce was the staff pick for ‘Top Defender’ at the ATX camp. Super quick in the open court and disruptive on the defensive end. He is a scholarship level athlete and college defender that can really guard the ball. He is a big guard that rebounds well and looks to get to the rim in the open court.
Coach V’s Assessment: Jayce will need to develop on the offensive end and stay engaged on defense to bump up his recruitment but he is one to watch in 2021. I could also see Jayce going to a JUCO where they full court pressure and end up as a D2+ prospect. Jayce’s best FIT is an uptempo team that presses the entire game. If you want tough players that turn defense into offense and attack in the open court this is your guy!
