Here is a quick rundown of the scores:
Mater Lakes 62, Archbishop McCarthy 42
St. Andrew’s 68, Westminster Academy 55
Pine Crest 85, Somerset Academy (Pines) 82
Standouts: Part Two
Jonathan Renois Jonathan Renois 6'0" | CG Somerset | 2021 State FL – Somerset Academy (Pines)
2021 guard Jonathan Renois Jonathan Renois 6'0" | CG Somerset | 2021 State FL has been the most productive player over the first two days of the showcase. The 6-foot Renois scored 32 points on Wednesday and 46 points last night against Pine Crest. Renois powered Somerset Prep back from a near 30-point deficit to take the lead on the Panthers with 14-straight points in the fourth quarter. Moreover, three of his four 3-pointers came during that span. The senior also showed tremendous ability to get into the lane and finish at the rim. Overall, Renois has shot the ball efficiently in two straight games. This is not a kid who took 50 shots to get his 46 points last night. Renois hit a tough-lay up and one for his final bucket that gave the Panthers a brief lead in the final minutes. You have to like his fight to continue to compete until the final buzzer. Renois should be getting college attention right now.
Josh Minott Josh Minott 6'9" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State #30 Nation FL – St. Andrew’s
2021 Memphis commit Josh Minott Josh Minott 6'9" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State #30 Nation FL was “quiet” early on against Westminster Academy. The 6-foot-8 forward scored just seven points by halftime as his teammates did most of the early damage against the Lions. This just goes to show you how talented the Scots are after building a 17-point lead after two quarters. Minott picked it up with 15 of his 22 points in the second half. The future Tiger acts like a point-forward on the floor and hit a pair of 3-pointers. St. Andrew’s looks like they haven’t missed a beat after winning their first state championship last season.
Kenny Turner Kenny Turner 6'6" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL – St. Andrew’s
2021 power forward Kenny Turner Kenny Turner 6'6" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL came out blazing for the Scots against the Lions. The 6-foot-7 Turner contributed to St. Andrew’s 11-0 start with seven of his nine points in the opening quarter. Turner was damaging around the rim thanks to his large frame and grabbed at-least six rebounds. He even showed his athleticism with a pretty-reverse in the opening minutes. This is not a kid who is going to get pushed around in the paint. Westminster Academy did not score during the opening six minutes thank in-part to the play of Turner. His unique blend of size and athleticism makes him an intriguing front-court prospect. Probably one of the more underrated players in the area.
Justin Sabater – Archbishop McCarthy
2021 combo guard Justin Sabater was right behind Matthew Newland as the best player on the floor for the Mavericks. Sabter looks to be in the 6-foot-2+ range and has an adequate jump shot. His athleticism helped him chip in with 12 points last night. Sabter was a big reason the Mavericks hung around against a strong Mater Lakes team.
Maximo Moratinos Maximo Moratinos 6'6" | PF Mater Lakes | 2021 State FL – Mater Lakes
2021 Maximo Moratinos Maximo Moratinos 6'6" | PF Mater Lakes | 2021 State FL continues to produce here in the early season. The 6-foot-6 wing led Mater Lakes with 16 points against Archbishop McCarthy. If you don’t box Moratinos out, he is going to find his way into the paint for a bucket. Leave him too much space on the perimeter and he has the ability to drive into the lane for a slam. Moratinos bring a lot of versatility when he is on the floor and can rebound as well.
