Continue ReadingUtah is a hot bed for High IQ guards. Although we are only listing 5 guards this time around there are solid guards littered all over the rankings that can play at the next level. Frankly coaches all over the country are all looking for different things in a guard that might propel one prospect over another.
Duncan Reid Duncan Reid 6'4" | SG Skyridge | 2021 State UT (Skyridge)
The 6’4 SG can absolutely compete. He has a really good looking shot with great mechanics. He can get his shots off quickly off the cath and off the dribble. He is always a threat to cast a deep ball on a defender that is not aware or simply relaxes. Duncan can easily go 10 for 11 if he is given the opportunity. At the high school level when teams run him off the three-point line he can really make them pay with floaters and a solid mid-range game. His length really allows him to shoot over people as well. Duncan really knows how to set up his defender when it comes to pin-downs and running off of multiple screens. Duncan is also not that player that just sits out on the wing, he can really move without the basketball. Duncan is a Division 1 SG.
Jackson Holcombe Jackson Holcombe 6'6" | CG Timpanogos | 2021 State UT (Timpanogos)
This might sound a bit cliche but Jackson is a swiss army knife. With him being 6’6 and able to handle the ball he is one of those players that can help a coach at the next level play with various combinations when it comes to his lineup. Jackson can shoot the ball and play uptempo basketball which will help him find a home at the next level. Jackson has that Division 1 type game that can be unlocked by the right program. Jackson can help a national JUCO once he sets foot on campus. He has great instinct that helps him see the floor and know when to pass, take it to the basket or pull up. He will be a nice addition.
Brennan Rigsby Brennan Rigsby 6'2" | CG Wasatch Academy | 2021 State UT (Wasatch Academy)
Brennan is most popularly known for his in-game Eastbay Dunks, but the kid can play. He’s got good size and some crazy bounce. Brennan sees the floor well and he has developed a lot of confidence as he is taking the ball to the whole with a more aggressive approach. While players are playing off of him because they do not want to be in any viral mixtape Brennan has really worked on his outside jumper. This all around game will help him find more suitors, he has a lot of talent and those skills will just get better with time and maturity. He would be a solid pick-up at the D-2 level or even an D1-JUCO. Anything above that could be possible but we will have to see how his senior year turns out.
Trace Ross Trace Ross 6'3" | PG Corner Canyon | 2021 State UT (Corner Canyon)
Talk about a kid who really took the offseason to work on his game, strength and overall play. Trace didn’t jump aboard any team this Spring and Summer and instead he worked on himself and it has showed. He can truly run PG or off G as well. He has a great motor. He can set up his man without wasting a dribble. Trace knows how to use his angles and get to the rim. There is no question that he can score at all the three-levels of the floor. do not be surprised if Trace ends up on a Division 1 roster. With a lot of new strength and at 6’3 he has a shot on any roster. He has the drive and the tenacity.
Jordan Toscano Jordan Toscano 6'1" | PG Bingham | 2021 State UT (Bingham)
Jordan is one of those High IQ players that seems to find pockets in the defense to enable him to get some open looks up. He can play at both ends of the floor. Jordan can pick up full-court and also haul in a rebound and get a break going with his eyes up looking for open teammates. Jordan finds ways to penetrate and find open cutters. if you’re looking for an unselfish PG that can score with minimal opportunities but make those around him better Jordan is that guy. Jordan is another player that wouldn’t surprise me if he found himself on a division 1 roster when it’s all said and done.
