Drew Steffe Drew Steffe 6'6" | PG Frisco Memorial | 2023 State #122 Nation TX scores 29 against the top team in the state. Kordrick Turner isn’t new to the varsity scene, but it’s not too late to watch him blossom. These underclassmen are producing today with so much basketball ahead of them tomorrow.
Drew Steffe Drew Steffe 6'6" | PG Frisco Memorial | 2023 State #122 Nation TX | Frisco Memorial
Face it Steffe could make a list of top performers every week but when you catch fire against top dog Duncanville you stay on the list. He knows how to get a bucket and it’s mostly through a jumpshot fueled by next level footwork. Add 29 points on a team with 6 Division 1 contributors to his resume. The 5 threes he connected on will be a memorable footnote.
Kordrick Turner | Sulphur Springs
Turner’s right-hand hook is automatic. The 6-6 sophomore buries defenders deep in the paint, consistently establishing a good position for rebounds and interior shots. Turner played varsity last year for a stacked Sulphur Springs, so this is more or less his first varsity season with heavy minutes. He’s young, has a clear skill, and plays for a program that’s had success getting their talent on to the next level. The team’s handoff heavy offense has the potential to turn Turner into a patient decision-maker. He’s another ‘23 we’ll be tracking through their career.
Deontrell Barrett | Faith Family
It’s more of the same for Barrett. The stocky point guard remains a reliable lead guard, pesky defender, and knockdown shooter. Whether it’s 14U, 17U, or his first year of varsity Barrett produces on both sides of the floor. His passing vision and handle helped him escape a state championship-winning press ran with 4 players that played heavy minutes returning.
Doryan Onwuchekwa | Faith Family
Possibly one of the highest upside draws in the Texas 2024 class, Onwuchekwa flashes what you want from a new age big. He runs the floor well for a young 6-9 big man. The freshman drew a foul, hit a smooth right-hand hook for a putback, and grabbed offensive rebounds in limited minutes. Even on a small sample size, all the things we saw this summer will happen at the varsity level.
