The Grind Session has held multiple sessions over the course of the past month, and they’re set to tip-off a couple more mini-bubble events this week.
Several CA players and teams have taken part in the The Grind Session over the past month, and here’s a quick look at some of the players who stood out throughout the month.
1. Jalen Cole Jalen Cole 6'4" | PF La Mirada | 2021 State CA-S – Veritas Prep 2021
Cole was a player I had tabbed as being ready for a potential breakout season. He has very good size for a forward. He can play multiple positions and in small-ball lineups, he is a stretch four with his three-point shooting ability. He has versatility on the defensive end as well. He can stick with guards and contest on the perimeter, then drop back and cover bigs in the paint and block shots. He’s a strong rebounder who boxes out well.
2. Oziyah Sellers – Southern California Academy 2022
Sellers is a combo guard with a knack for scoring. He’s got a consistent shot from the midrange and from the three-point line. He can knock down pull-up jumpers in transition and he can shoot off the dribble in the halfcourt. That one-two hard dribble pull-up is his bread and butter. He’s comfortable as the team’s lead ball-handler and he’s very unselfish. He’s got solid vision and can find the open teammate.
3. Latawn Brown Jr. – Ron Institute 2022
Brown is an explosive and athletic wing. He gets out in transition and he’s a crafty finisher around the rim with good body control. On the break, you just have lob the ball up to him and he’ll finish the play He can handle the ball against defensive pressure and slash his way to the basket. He can draw contact and get himself to the free-throw line. He’s a capable defensive player who uses his athleticism to block and contest shots.
4. Paul Ezeamama – Ron Institute 2021
Ezeamama is a strong forward who can make quick moves off the dribble and bump defenders off at the rim. He works hard on the glass, especially the offensive end to get second shot opportunities and put-backs. Strong finisher at the rim with good hands who can use his size and skill to overpower defenders. Defensively, he moves well and contests shots in the paint. He plays with a lot of energy and hustle.
