Look for these kids to take major leaps this next year as they develop as players and athletes. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for these young men as they continue to grow and begin their senior campaigns.
Angelo Samudio 6’3 2021 (FAOT All Stars) McCollum High School
Angelo is a quick footed wing who thrives on getting into the paint and drawing contact. He is very good with a live dribble, he has real combo guard skills. He plays with a great motor, he is a relentless player who thrives at beating defenders in the lane. He has all the tools to dominate in the full court with good agility to run the court and an effortless ability to finish around the rim. He is pretty good on the glass for his size, he displayed an ability to guard positions one through four effortlessly having to play major forward minutes for his team and impressed me with his ability to box out and clean up the glass.
Jakobi Hardy 6’5 2021 Hillcrest High School
Jakobi is an athletic wing who is also a dual sport athlete in football as well. He moves very well for his size and finishes down low with ease. He has great drop step moves and other post moves that he can get to. On the defensive end he is a monster, utilizing his length and aggressiveness to block easy attempts around the rim. Everyone seemed to have a problem scoring on him. I would like to see more sustained aggressiveness; he often is trailing plays that he could have affected. He has all the tools to be a successful player at the next level if he can improve his motor.
James Hussey James Hussey 6'4" | SG Liberty | 2021 State TX 2021 Wing 6’5 Liberty High School
James is an intelligent scorer who is comfortable in all three levels. He has a silky-smooth release and can get you buckets off the bounce, and the catch. I was blown away with his confidence and ability to score against high level competition. I would like to see him develop more as a creator for his teammates, especially when his shot is not falling at the consistency he would like. His handle is good, and he has a range of moves he is comfortable with. He is a capable player who has a chance to be an effective player at the next level.
Drake Hurley 2021 6’2 SF Rains High School (Emory, TX)
Drake is an impressive athlete who just so happens to be a deadly set shooter. He is an elite athlete who moves well up and down the court. He plays engaged defense with long arms and he plays the game with true intensity. I would like to see more skill with a live dribble and to see him incorporate more creativity into his finishes. I was impressed with his overall motor and intensity on the floor. He competed so hard this summer and you can tell he has put in the work!
