Look for these kids to take major leaps this next year as they develop as players and athletes. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for these young men as they continue to grow and begin their senior campaigns.
Jah Gulley 2022 PG Lockhart High School
Jah is comfortable at all three levels, off the dribble, off the catch however you want it. He has a great sidestep three that he loves to get off. I was impressed with his ability to finish in the lane, he is crafty with his ability to go up and under as well as using his footwork to create space with intelligent euro steps. He is a true scorer who can fill it up at any given time. I would like to see him work on his ability to create for his teammates and utilize the space and fear he will strike into opposing defenses.
Kobe Haynes 2021 5’10 PG Houston Christian High School
Kobe is a kid who plays up to the moment, seemingly always stepping up when his team needed a bucket or someone to create space and an open shot. He has a soft floater that he loves to punish the opposing bigs with in the lane. He has great food speed and agility and seems to zip all around the court in search for open space to attract attention and create for a teammate. He is a confident shooter off the bounce and off the catch and loves to stroke it from deep. He is an active on ball defender who comes up with steals and gets his opponent to turn the ball over with bad passes.
Edgar Romero 5’10 2021 (Jesuit) Strake Jesuit High School
Edgar is a sharp shooting point guard who has a high release despite his smaller frame and shoots well over tough on ball defense. He is lightning quick with a live dribble and can get to his spots with ease, even with a larger defender on him. He is great off the catch as well and moves well without the basketball. I would like to see improvement on the defensive end of the floor and a better ability to fight through screens.
Isaiah Monroe 6’2 2021 Alief Elsik High School
Isaiah is a crafty point guard who finishes strong in the paint. He has great upper body strength that he uses to finish well at the rim despite contact. He has great length that he uses to bait defenders into reaching and then extending his arms past them drawing contact much like James Harden does in the lane. I would like to see him work on his ability to keep his head up and create for others while driving into the lane and getting into the teeth of the defense.
Ka’Lon Johnson 2021 Point Guard Alvarado High School
Ka’Lon is an sneaky athletic guard with a real ability to hang in the air and finish in the lane. He is so crafty when driving with the basketball seeming to get around whoever he wants to at any given time. He knows how to intelligently play with pace to slow up and quickly turn it on to beat defenders. He is great at punishing defenders for closing out too hard on him by hitting them a quick crossover. I would like to see him work on his outside shooting and ability to create for his teammates to really see him make that next leap.
