Continue ReadingThe first two installments in this high school preview series looked at underclassmen prospects (Class of 2023 & 2024) who could contribute for their high school varsity teams this winter. The most recent post reviewed players in the Class of 2022 who are expected to contribute heavily during the 2020-21 season.
Today, it’s time to discuss the Class of 2021. This group of elite prospects are already star players for their varsity teams. Now as seniors, they will be expected to carry their high school squads in numerous ways this winter. That’s a load of pressure for these players to shoulder. No worries at all. This group of elite prospects are just months away from playing major college ball, so they can handle any challenges the final season of varsity hoops brings their way.
Below is a list of 2021 prospects I saw play between September and mid-November who will be expected to post a tremendous senior year for their varsity squad during the 2020-21 season.
Matt Compas Matt Compas 6'3" | CG Wissahickon | 2021 State PA – 6’2” / Wissahickon / Combo Guard: Compas is an extremely athletic, lefty combo guard who shot it well and finished in traffic with authority. Playing predominantly point guard this fall, Compas was excellent at pushing the ball in transition. At the defensive end, his on-ball pressure was impressive and he forced heaps of TOs. Compas played with a ton of energy and extra spring in his legs. He told me he is hearing from a number of schools including Millersville, Marywood and Lincoln.
Anquan Hill Anquan Hill 6'8" | PF Archbishop Carroll | 2021 State PA – 6’5’’ / Archbishop Carroll / Forward: Anquan put up big games over the last couple of months and college coaches took notice. He really showed off his ability to shoot from deep and to create for himself. A long and lean athlete with hops, he is a good rebounder and shot blocker. Hill controlled the paint this fall against some pretty good competition. He owns the offensive glass and can finish over defenders with authority. Lastly, a decent jump shot is part of his skill set. Holds offers from a number of schools including Saint Joe’s, Bryant and Drexel.
Aaron Lemon-Warren Aaron Lemon-Warren 6'4" | SF Archbishop Ryan | 2021 State PA – 6’5” / Archbishop Ryan / Wing: A completely healed Lemon-Warren (missed most of the 2019-20 season with a broken foot) returned to action in July and by September his game was on point. This fall, he once again showcased his ability to score at all 3 levels (24 ppg as a junior). He has a high basketball IQ and will not hesitate to take advantage of mismatches on the perimeter or around the basket. Lemon-Warren is also a very good passer and rebounder. Holds offers from numerous schools including Richmond and St. Louis.
Hysier Miller Hysier Miller 6'2" | PG Neumann-Goretti | 2021 State PA – 6’2” / Neumann Goretti / Point Guard: Miller (14 ppg.) was an All-Catholic League selection in 2019-20 and this fall the point man further proved he can really score the rock with a 40-point outburst in Week 1 of the Difference Maker Elite Open Runs (Cherry Hill, NJ). Complimenting his natural ability to fill it up, is the fact that Miller is a rock solid floor general who owns ridiculous handles and excellent court vision. Miller chose Temple over a slew of other DI offers.
Jason Price – 6’3” / Souderton / Point-Forward: After posting a breakout high school season in 2019-20, Price appears ready to take things to the next level this winter. Everyone knows Price can score the basketball at all 3 levels, but in Fall 2020, he displayed great court vision, handles and ability to slash / cut without the basketball at a high level. Price also did a nice job of finishing with either hand.
Christian Tamasco – 6’9” / Archbishop Ryan / Center: The former Bishop Eustace standout simply blew up during Fall 2020. College coaches don’t see many athletic, 6’10” kids who are so versatile and that’s why he has numerous DI offers. Tamasco can shoot threes, run the floor and block shots. For a big with his size to own such outstanding shooting touch, from anywhere on the floor, is just unfair. On the defensive end, Tamasco is a legit shot blocker who protects the rim without fouling.
Eamon Walsh – 6’4’’ / Devon Prep / Guard-Forward: A returning starter who posted 10.8 ppg in 2019-20, Walsh helped Devon Prep win the Competitive Edge Fall League. Walsh exhibited great court vision and passing skills. He moves without the very ball well, making excellent use of back door cuts. Once he receives a pass, Walsh can finish in traffic with either hand. The versatile athlete shoots the 3-ball well, especially from the corners.
Junior Yilijap – 6’7” / Great Valley / Center: An interior player with length for days, this fall Yilijap ran the floor very well and displayed a solid offensive skill set. Operating mostly around the free throw line area, Yilijap flashed excellent passing skills and the ability to score off the dribble. Quick second jumps and a nose for the ball allowed Yilijap to convert on a numerous 2nd chance scoring opportunities.
