Although some of their teams won’t be able to compete until late January, they’re worth keeping an eye on when they are able to start playing.
Amari Jedkins Amari Jedkins 6'7" | PF Racine Case | 2022 State WI (6’8 2022 F, Racine Case)- Likely the top overall prospect in the conference, Amari is filled with potential on both ends of the floor. He’s a long 6’8 while also being an explosive athlete for his size, which allows him to be productive on the defensive end and in transition offense. Amari runs the floor hard leading to highlight dunks in the open floor, and is a skilled rim protector who uses timing and length to contest or block shots. Although he’s still raw offensively, he’s shown flashes of a perimeter jumper and works hard on the glass to pick up second chance points. He holds an offer from Western Illinois heading into his junior season.
Bryce Wallace (6’5 2022 SF, Kenosha Indian Trail)- Bryce might be the biggest mystery on this list, as he played JV last year and has since added a couple of inches in height. Although he hasn’t produced at the varsity level yet, there’s a lot to like about his potential. He’s extremely long and mobile for his size, and is also an explosive leaper off one foot in the open floor. Bryce can sky to the hoop for finishes, or use his length to cause problems on the defensive end. If he can turn these physical tools into consistent production, and continue to work on his perimeter skills, he’ll be an intriguing prospect moving forward.
Trey Jenkins Trey Jenkins 6'5" | SG Bradford | 2021 State WI (6’4 2021 SG, Kenosha Bradford)- I really like what Trey Jenkins Trey Jenkins 6'5" | SG Bradford | 2021 State WI brings to the table offensively. He’s a lanky 6’4 guard who doesn’t stand out with explosiveness or a flashy handle, but is skilled in creating his own shot off limited dribbles. Whether it be getting to his spot from mid-range, or creating space from three off a stepback, it’s hard for defenders to get a hand up and contest when he looks to score. Trey is most known for his shooting, but during fall league play he proved that he can attack the basket in transition and in half-court sets. Schools from various levels are watching, and Trey will look to put in a strong senior campaign.
Carter Capstran Carter Capstran 6'6" | PF Franklin | 2021 State WI (6’6 2021 PF, Franklin)- One of the most dominant players in the SEC last year, Carter put up 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest while also dropping a career high of 42 against Racine Case. At 6’6 he has a strong frame that allows him to compete against taller players in the post, but has also improved his mobility and is able to take defenders off the dribble from the wing. Carter is an excellent finisher around the rim, able to create with his strength or footwork and score with both hands. He’s also a more than capable shooter when given too much space beyond the arc. Look for some D2 schools to be keeping an eye on Carter this winter.
Dontrell Bush Dontrell Bush 6'1" | SG Racine Horlick | 2022 WI (6’2 2022 G, Racine Horlick)- Dontrell is equipped with all of the physical tools to succeed, and has a budding skillset to match. At this point it’s a matter of consistently putting together productive games for his team. Dontrell can handle the ball, but I really like him playing as a wing-guard because he’s so good at beating his man off the dribble and getting into the paint. He’s a solid finisher and also has impressive passing vision that he uses to find his teammates for easy buckets. Bush also has the athleticism that makes him a threat to go coast-to-coast in transition. If he can score consistently while limiting turnovers and working hard on the defensive end, he’ll be a very good player in the SEC over the next two years.
Trey Cardona (5’10 2021 PG, Kenosha Tremper)- Trey Cardona was Tremper’s third option last year, but really stepped up in the playoffs with their leading scorer missing time. Trey finished his junior year with games of 25 and 29 while pushing Tremper within one game of the state tournament, and he’ll look to continue that success as a senior. He’s often the smallest guy on the floor, but has a shifty handle that makes him difficult to defend when isolated. I like his ability to hang in the air and absorb contact around the rim to finish, and he’s also dangerous creating space to shoot from beyond the arc. Trey doesn’t care who he’s going up against, he’s simply looking to produce and help his team win. He’s also an extremely clutch player, hitting the game winner in Tremper’s last game in March, and also hitting multiple game winners during a recent fall league.
Tre Gordon Tre Gordon 6'3" | SG Kenosha Bradford | 2022 WI (6’2 2021 G, Kenosha Bradford)- Tre is looking to bounce back after missing a lot of his junior season with an injury, and comes into the winter looking like an even more explosive athlete. He’s so dangerous when he sees a gap, as he’s able to get to the hoop and elevate quickly, and he has a nice lay-up package to score around height. With his improved athleticism, he’s also not afraid to go up and dunk in traffic, and is so good at drawing contact to get to the line. He doesn’t look to shoot a lot off the dribble, but is able to move off the ball and get open for catch-and-shoot threes where he can hit them consistently when open. Should be one of the more improved players in the SEC.
