As the conference is so deep, we start off with part one of two, naming eight uncommitted prospects to watch in the SEC.
Terryon Brumby Terryon Brumby 6'0" | PG Racine Case | 2022 State WI (6′ 2022 G, Racine Case)- Racine Case won’t be able to play until later in January, but when Terryon gets on the floor he will be ready to perform. Jakobe Thompson Jakobe Thompson 6'1" | PG Racine Case | 2021 State WI is now in California attending prep school, so that leaves a ton of production to be filled, and Terryon will take over as the main scorer. At 6′ he doesn’t have a lot of size, but he has a strong frame and is extremely quick getting to the rim off the dribble. Terryon is fearless attacking the basket and going up against size, and does a good job of absorbing contact and maintaining his balance in air to finish. He averaged 14.4 ppg as a sophomore, and should see that number rise as a junior.
Ezra Stargell Ezra Stargell 6'1" | PG Kenosha Indian Trail | 2021 State WI (5’11 2021 PG, Kenosha Indian Trail)- Pound-for-pound, Ezra Stargell Ezra Stargell 6'1" | PG Kenosha Indian Trail | 2021 State WI is one of the most talented players in the state. The electrifying point guard is lightning quick and plays with flair while running the point for ITA. Ezra is one of the best passers in the state, with his ability to draw in help defenders and quickly find the open man with a variety of flashy passes. When scoring the ball Ezra can stretch the floor with his deep range, but is also quick enough to get to the basket and finish inside. If he can stay on the floor, expect big numbers this winter.
Vinko Polovic Vinko Polovic 6'7" | PF Franklin | 2021 State WI (6’7 2021 SF, Franklin)- Set for a breakout senior season, Vinko is one of the more intriguing prospects in southeastern Wisconsin. At 6’7 he has great size to play either forward spot, and is capable of stretching the floor with his shooting touch from beyond the arc. Vinko handles the ball very well for his size, even running the point during some fall events. Franklin has a very deep team this year with plenty of size, so it’s unknown exactly what role he’ll play, but he’s a prospect whose best basketball lies ahead of him.
Jalen Carlino Jalen Carlino 6'0" | PG Kenosha Bradford | 2022 State WI (5’11 2022 PG, Kenosha Bradford)- As a sophomore playing at the varsity level last winter, Jalen was among the conference leaders in assists at 4.4 per game, while also shooting the ball at a 38% clip from three. Carlino plays with a calm demeanor, and never appears rushed under pressure, and is more than capable of keeping all of his teammates involved. Bradford will have two talented ball handlers this winter, so Jalen’s vision and shooting will allow him to play either on or off the ball.
Darrien Long Darrien Long 6'5" | PF Racine Horlick | 2022 State WI (6’4 2022 W, Racine Horlick)- If Darrien can put all of the pieces together this winter, he could be in for a huge junior year. At around 6’4-6’5 with a strong frame, Darrien is big enough to bully smaller wings around the rim. However, he’s also showed that he can be a perimeter threat with a solid outside shot and the ability to beat his man off the dribble. Where Darrien excels most is in transition, as his explosive leaping ability often leads to highlight dunks. If he produces on a consistent basis and is able to defend multiple spots, scholarship schools will want to be keeping tabs.
Kael Stulo Kael Stulo 6'1" | CG Oak Creek | 2021 State WI (6′ 2021 G, Oak Creek)- A returning 2nd-team All Conference honoree, Kael Stulo Kael Stulo 6'1" | CG Oak Creek | 2021 State WI is a fundamentally sound guard who can hurt you in a variety of ways. Most notable is his ability to knock down the outside shot, as he drained 69 threes at a 40% rate as a junior on his way to 14 ppg. Oak Creek likes to run him off screens where he can get his defender chasing and then fire off a shot with his quick release, but he’s also more than capable of creating his own looks off the dribble. Kael adds in a crafty finishing ability, and is a hard worker on the defensive end.
Willie Williams Jr (6′ 2024 G, Racine Park)- It’s not often that freshmen are able to come in and contribute right away in a conference full of Division 1 schools, but Williams has the potential to do just that for Park. He’s so skilled at getting to the rim off the dribble, where he’s able to finish off his looks with either hand in traffic. Willie is able to fly up the floor in transition or use his flashy handle to beat his defender, and does a good job of keeping his head up to either find the open man or avoid committing a charge in the lane. A freshman to watch for this winter.
Will Starks Will Starks 6'4" | SF Kenosha Tremper | 2023 State WI s (6’4 2023 W, Kenosha Tremper)- After seeing the occasional minutes on varsity as a freshman, Will steps into a much bigger role for his sophomore season. Starks blew up this summer with World Hoops Elite , putting up big scoring and rebounding numbers with his energetic style of play. The motor never stops for Will, as he is constantly grinding to collect offensive rebounds, and using his quick second leap to score off of them. He’s still looking to develop his perimeter game, but in fall league he’s proven that he can get to the rim and finish at a high rate against varsity competition.
