The event saw tons of talent from all over the state, and saw many standouts that we both knew about and some new ones as well.
We take a crack at making All Series Teams, and it was very tough with the amount of talent in the event. The criteria was that the player had to play in at least four games in the event, eliminating a few very good performances from guys who only played in one of the sessions.
Here’s a look at our choices for Second Team All CBG Fall Series, with 7 guys who deserve all the attention they’re getting now.
Jason Nelson Jason Nelson 5'8" | PG John Marshall | 2021 State VA | 5’9” PG | CBG Blue Magic 2021
13.3 PPG (67% 3P), 2.7 APG, 5.3 RPG
One of the top floor generals I’ve seen over the past 5 years in VA, the two time state champ and University of Richmond commit was as consistent as anyone throughout the event. He’s a highly skilled guy who has improved as a shooter and scorer over the past few years, and his killer instinct and competitive chip is what makes him so special. He’ll go at anyone but also makes others on his team better, he’s a good defender both on and off the basketball and he has great energy and is a born winner.
Jayden Epps Jayden Epps 6'1" | CG Combine Academy | 2022 State #41 Nation NC | 6’1” PG | Team Suffolk 2022
15.5 PPG, 7 RPG
A nationally ranked lead guard in the 2022 class, Epps is a guy who has a target on his back every game he plays, but he welcomes it and actually enjoys the competition and big time matchups. A quick guard with a go-getter mentality, Epps competed on both ends, showed his ability to score it on the ball from all over the court and showed improvement in his athleticism and rebounding ability. While he’s very skilled and productive, it’s his competitive attitude and ability to come at you over and over again that makes him so tough to matchup with.
Cam Edmonds Cam Edmonds 6'2" | CG Western Branch | 2021 State VA | 6’1” G | Chesapeake Jaguars 2021
13 PPG (53% 3P), 5.2 RPG, 2.5 APG
Edmonds is the definition of a go-getter and he was one of the top scorers in the event before an off session 3 dropped his numbers down, although they’re still very impressive. He’s a guy who can play on or off the basketball, scores it efficiently from multiple levels especially from deep and he comes at you over and over again. He’s a tough nosed, two-way guard that makes winning plays and is a nightmare to matchup with.
Amari Baylor | 6’4” PF | CBG East 2022
15 PPG, 5.7 RPG
Baylor really got it going in the second session and was a huge reason for East’s success against some very good teams. While he’s a little undersized at his position, Baylor plays with a physicality and motor that allows him to outplay guys much bigger than him in the post, and he’s a mismatch problem with his ability to score it out to the three-point line and his great face up game. He brings it on both ends, competes against whoever he’s in front of and brings great energy to his team.
Alphonzo Billups Alphonzo Billups 6'7" | SF Varina | 2022 State #154 Nation VA | 6’7” WF | CBG East 2022
15.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 2.5 APG
One of the most versatile wings in the state, Billups showed all of that as he ran the show and played all over the court for his East team. He’s a guy who can play the one offensively and play the 1-4 defensively, he can score it from multiple levels on the ball and he’s a good playmaker who can pass the rock with both hands and see over defenders with the ball in his hands. Defensively he makes plays as well, and his athleticism and ability to play above the rim brings energy to his team as well. He picked up an offer from Florida after his performance at the Fall Series.
Bryson Spell Bryson Spell 6'7" | PF Cape Henry | 2021 State VA | 6’9” PF | CBG Neptunes/Team Assist 2.0 2021
16.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG
Spell played in the second session with Team Assist 2.0 and played in the third session with CBG Neptunes, and both days he showed why he’s considered one of the best available prospects in the state. The smooth shooting forward played with great confidence and a good motor, and he showed a lot of improvement in his ability to score it in different ways and do more than just stretch the floor. He has a college ready body and his skill set translates to the next level, and with increased production he looks every bit ready for that move.
Jayson Harris Jayson Harris 6'6" | PF Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’7” PF | Hard 2 Guard 2021
11 PPG, 6.8 RPG
Harris was a guy who showed flashes last year with Menchville, and he showed at the Fall Series he’s ready to take the next leap and be one of the best players on the peninsula this year. A strong and rugged forward that can play in the post and run the floor with his guards, he also showed improvement in his ability to stretch the floor and make shots from deep. He competes hard in the paint and was very productive with multiple double-doubles throughout the event. He picked up an offer from D2 Allen University after his performance at the Fall Series.
