These Utah prospects got to compete with some of the best players in the country and some potential NBA bound type athletes. The likes of Chet Holmgren,( #1 Player in the Country), KJ Simpson, Houston Mallette, just to name a few. High level Utah players did not disappoint. This also served for a quick tune-up before the season is underway.
6’9 Jaxon Kohler Jaxon Kohler 6'9" | PF Southern California Academy | 2022 #49 Nation CA-S (American Fork)
Jaxon like always impresses with his footwork. While e was playing against some top tier competition he really played at an elite level. He was often guarding some athletic, quick and strong players and he did not back-down one bit. One impressive part of Jaxon’s back to the basket game is his ability to bully players down to a position he feels comfortable making a move on. He is able to really keep defenders off balance and it serves as a great tool especially when layers are bigger or more athletic he can still find ways to shake off a defender and get to the rim. Jaxon has a great all-around game and it was on full display. He has great shooting form and can really hit those fadeaway jumpers when he needs more separation. He will not back down from a challenge when he is attacked on the rim and will go up and block one if he needs to. Jaxon provides a great target to passers when he is on the block or mid-post. He was very fluid and patient under the basket this weekend. Major D1 talent!
6’8 Jake Wahlin Jake Wahlin 6'8" | SF Timpview | 2021 State #150 Nation UT (Timpview)
The thing that makes Jake special is his ability to play multiple positions and guard them as well. He is not the player you just label with a position because he can really play different positions at a high level. Jake has major IQ that he makes playing PG look so easy. He has great vision as he is able to keep his vision up to see what is available to make a solid pass through traffic. Jake can also step out and shoot the 3-ball with high accuracy which brings bigger defender out in the perimeter which then allows him to get to the basket where he can either finish himself or create for others. Jake was able to showcase his play making ability and the ability to create his own shots. Jake will fit in nicely with what BYu is doing with these multi-position players.
6’4 Collin Chandler Collin Chandler 6'5" | CG Farmington | 2022 State #28 Nation UT (Farmington)
when you measure growth from one year to the next Collin is that player that is almost unrecognizable because his game has just taken off. It is often one thing to shine against players in your state or in your region etc. Collin is playing at an amazing level that he is being tagged as a player that would likely make it to the league. Collin once again this weekend showed everyone that he is one of the best PG/G in the country. Collin attacked the rim and kept defenders off balance and was able to get to spots on the floor where he is comfortable. Most notable was his movement off the ball that is starting to really take shape s he was able to get tip-ins and dunks because of how well he moves without the basketball.
