The always steady point guard from Tualatin has now grown past 6-foot and added some muscle to his frame and it’s paid off in his game. He’s been working hard on his game ever since the season ended, with the hope of having a big junior as well as capturing the attention of college coaches.
“I have been thankful that I’ve had gym access during this and been able to do as much training as before COVID, it not more,” Ogoli said. “I’ve worked on my shot the most because to play at the next level you have to be able to shoot especially at the guard position. I’ve grown and gotten stronger so that should help me be more successful next season.”
One of the things Ogoli got a chance to do was play some club basketball. He ran with International Elite’s 16U squad in a couple of events and immediately emerged as one of the team’s leading scorers and assist men.
“I had a good experience with them, especially because I was one of the only guards I got to handle the ball almost the whole game,” Ogoli said. “I got to play at the highest level.”
Through his play he actually caught the attention of Division II Newman University in Kansas and his hope that more schools will come calling. “My coaches are about to send my film out so I should receive some looks soon,” he said.
Also a track standout in the 400 and 800, but also capable of running the 100 or 200, Ogoli is also pondering the possibility of pursuing track for Division I athletics. On the hardwood, as he continues to develop as a point guard and get his name out there, Ogoli is hopeful that this next season will take place – and it’s one where he has high expectations.
“(We’re) Top 10 in the state for sure,” Ogoli said. “We’ve got some young talent and size this year and I think we will do well.”
Ogoli currently ranks #9 in the updated Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
