Recruiting Report: 2022 Alphonzo Billups
The class of 2022 in the state of Virginia is one of the strongest that I have seen since I have been covering high school basketball. One of the top shooters from the class in the state is 2022 Alphonzo Billups Alphonzo Billups 6'7" | SF Varina | 2022 State #154 Nation VA of Varina. Billups stands at 6’7 and has some solid length on him that allows him to be versatile while on the court. During my evaluation of him at the Commonwealth Grassroots Fall Series, it was some of the best basketball I have seen from him.
“I have been having a really good fall, It has been great actually. I have been able to get my work in the lab.”
I last saw Billups at the I95 Coalition League during the same and he looked much improved from that event. However, he does think that competition helped him.
Shot making and scoring the basketball is what separates Billups from others and is continuing to practice shooting the basketball to become even more of a lights out shooter.
“I work on that all day while I am practicing. I feel like I can shoot the ball from anywhere.”
When asked which schools are prioritizing him right now, he said, “VCU, Temple, Texas A&M and LaSalle.”
VCU is the hometown school and he spoke on the program, “It is the hometown school and a great school. All of the coaches are good and I have a good relationship with all of them.”
It seems like he and Temple have built a good relationship as well, “I like Temple. That is another program that I have a good relationship with.”
Last winter, he visited another in-state school in Virginia and he had a lot of positive things to say about the defending national champions.
“UVA is different, they are definitely different. It is a good program. It is a hard working program. I have seen them practice and they are just different.”
Clemson out of the ACC was Billups second offer, “Clemson is a strong program in the ACC, I like them a lot.”
