Continue ReadingOne could argue the Class of 2021 is the most impacted class in recruiting, but not far behind them is the Class of 2022 players looking to get out and see programs and schools and what they have to offer. Here are some of the top players in the class of 2022, and some updates on their current recruiting status:
Josh Dix Josh Dix 6'5" | SG Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2022 State #149 Nation IA – Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln HS
The #2 rated player in the ’22 class, Dix played his summer ball with OSA Crusaders based in Omaha, and will look to continue good momentum into the winter season. The 6’4 guard has received offers from from University of Missouri-Kansas City, Drake, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, and Colorado State so far and has additional interest from Iowa, Belmont, Utah State, Creighton, Princeton, and North Dakota State. He told me that he feels like all of the schools that have offered him have been consistently in contact and actively recruiting him to go along with interested schools in Belmont and Utah State. A decision date is TBD so far for Dix, and he doesn’t have any visits setup yet because of the extended NCAA dead period.
Cole Glasgow Cole Glasgow 6'2" | SG Dallas Center- Grimes | 2022 State IA – Dallas Center-Grimes HS
The ’22 class if top heavy with guards and another one with DI interest and offers is Glasgow. The athletic, shooting guard had an interesting summer playing with 2 teams in the All Iowa Attack and D1 Minnesota, but made the most of it coming out with offers from the Summit League. His offer list is consisting of state rivals South Dakota and South Dakota State right now, but he has additional interest from Drake, North Dakota State, and Belmont who have been active in this recruitment. Glasgow tells me he doesn’t have any virtual visits but that all 5 schools mentioned have talked about getting him for a visit once he’s able to and the dead period is lifted. He does have more DI interest from schools who have contacted him, but those are the 5 schools that have been actively recruiting him.
Steven Kramer Steven Kramer 6'5" | SG Johnston | 2022 State IA – Johnston HS
Another guard from the top 5 in our rankings is Kramer, though a different style as he stands at 6’6 and can play and guard any position 1-4 with his length and athleticism. This Fall Kramer showed us what kind of step he’s looking to make this school season in the scoring department, and if he does so I’d expect this list of schools to grow even more than it has. As far as programs right now, Kramer doesn’t hold any offers, but has interest from Iowa, Princeton, Utah State, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and Nebraska-Omaha. Hoping the dead period will end when scheduled to end in January, Kramer will then try to setup some visits to see the campuses of those schools involved. Steven has no decision timeline set yet.
Jevin Sullivan Jevin Sullivan 6'5" | SG North Polk | 2022 State IA – North Polk HS
Our #10 ranked player in the class in the state of Iowa, Jevin Sullivan Jevin Sullivan 6'5" | SG North Polk | 2022 State IA , has had a breakout year averaging 20+ points per game during high school season and helping Beyond Ball’s 16U and 17U team play some competitive basketball this past summer. Right now, Sullivan reports an NAIA William Penn offer, but has additional interest from all levels. DI interest from Holy Cross, South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota, Nebraska-Omaha, Drake, and Winthrop to go along with NAIA program Dordt and DII programs Wayne State and Southwest Minnesota State. With an even winter season Sullivan could see this list grow even more with interest and offers at all levels. Princeton has been pretty active in this recruitment. He would like to commit before his senior season next year, but will look for the best fit for him.
Gabe Burkle Gabe Burkle 6'7" | PF Prairie | 2022 State IA – Cedar Rapids Prairie HS
A hot commodity within the state on the gridiron, but an under appreciated prospect on the hardwood would be our #12 ranked Gabe Burkle Gabe Burkle 6'7" | PF Prairie | 2022 State IA . He reports offers from Iowa State, Minnesota, Michigan State, and Buffalo for football, but also interest from another 15 DI schools, including Iowa, who think Burkle could fit in as a TE at the next level with his 6’7 frame. As you can imagine with that kind of frame, Burkle is also good and has nice footwork on the hardwood, though he won’t be able to participate in basketball this year as he tore his ACL this football season and will be sidelined. He told me visits have been at a standstill at the moment with the pandemic and dead period being extended but is hoping to get out to schools as soon as he possibly can.
Lucas Lorenzen Lucas Lorenzen 6'4" | SF Okoboji | 2022 State IA – Okoboji HS
Someone who impressed me at the Iowa Expo was Lorenzen to go along with his play with Martin Brothers from this past summer. Prep Hoops Iowa’s #14 ranked player in the state in our recent update, Lorenzen reports offers from DII program Wayne State and NAIA programs Northwestern College and Briar Cliff. Other schools that have contacted Lorenzen so far are South Dakota, South Dakota State, Idaho State, and Nebraska-Omaha at the DI level along with Augustana who is transitioning at the moment. DII programs Northern State and Winona State have expressed interest to go along with NAIA Dordt and Morningside. Lucas told me he’d like to make a decision by this time next year, but will wait for the right fit as well. He has visited Briar Cliff and Wayne State so far unofficially.
Armonniey Thomas Armonniey Thomas 6'2" | PG Marshalltown | 2022 State IA – Marshalltown HS
Thomas has made name for himself while playing for the Bobcats during the school season, and has continued that momentum up until this point playing his summer ball with Pure Prep. Though Thomas doesn’t have any offers right now he has had several different levels of schools checking in on him. Schools such as Oral Roberts and Central Michigan at the DI level; Minnesota State-Moorhead, Christian Brothers, Barry, and the University of Tampa at the DII level to go along with NAIA, DIII interest from Simpson, Buena Vista, Ripon, York, Blackburn, and York University. Hesston College in the junior college ranks has also checked in. No decision timeline has been set or dates for visits by Thomas.
Ashton Hermann Ashton Hermann 6'4" | SG Ballard | 2022 State IA – Ballard HS
One of the top teams in Class 3A going into the winter season will be Ballard, and our #18 ranked player Ashton Hermann Ashton Hermann 6'4" | SG Ballard | 2022 State IA is a big reason for that. Hermann showed well this summer playing with the 16U Kingdom Hoops team. With his play he’s garnered interest from DI schools Northern Iowa, Nebraska-Omaha, and transitioning Augustana; DII schools Winona State and Central Missouri in addition to NAIA Briar Cliff and Dordt. He’s planning to try to take a visit to Northern Iowa, Nebraska-Omaha, and Augustana in the Spring and maybe more when the dead period lifts.
