Vashon High standout guard Nick Kern gave a commitment to Virginia Commonwealth University on Monday afternoon. He made the announcement official on his Instagram account. He later signed his national letter of intent at his school.
A 6’6″ wing player, Kern is currently the No. 4 player in the latest Prep Hoops Missouri Class of 2021 rankings. He selected VCU over Saint Louis U, TCU and DePaul.
A silky-smooth offensive player with three-level scoring ability, Kern averaged 12 points a game to help the Wolverines to a Final Four berth in the Class 4 state tournament as a junior. With the graduation of Division I players Cameron Fletcher, Phillip Russell Phillip Russell 6'0" | PG Vashon | 2020 State #426 Nation MO and Kobe Clark Kobe Clark 6'7" | SF Vashon | 2020 State #343 Nation MO , Kern is expected to take an even bigger offensive role for the Wolverines this season.
Kern becomes the second player from Vashon who will be putting on a VCU uniform. Former Wolverine forward Levi Stockard will be playing for VCU this season after transferring from Kansas State, where he spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career.
During the summer grassroots season, Kern played with Brad Beal Elite.
