Prospect Spotlight: 2022 Efrem Johnson
As previously stated many times before, the state of Virginia is loaded in the 2022 class. Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson 6'4" | NA lbs | SG Grissom | 2022 State #NA Nation AL is currently slated at number 8 in our Virginia state rankings and might be one of the more underrated prospects in the entire state. Johnson is coming off a strong sophomore season at Western Branch and was scheduled to play with Boo Williams this summer and definitely would have made more of a name for himself on the national scene.
This fall he tried to take advantage of the pandemic and continue to work on his game.
“It has been kind of tough but you have to keep pushing through this virus. A lot of people are sitting around the house not doing much but I keep telling myself I have to use this time to prepare and be ready for whenever the season starts.”
Johnson has been one of the standouts at the Commonwealth Basketball Grassroots Fall Series and he knows that the event can get him a lot of college exposure.
“I am trying to get as much out of it as I can. There is a lot of film from these types of events and I think that will help because I feel like I am underrated and overlooked so this film can help me and help me get more offers.”
ODU is his most recent offer and he likes what the local hometown school has to offer.
“It is close by. It was a good offer for me. I have been wanting it for a while and I watch them a lot. I have been on campus and been to a bunch of ODU games. They have a good environment so it’s a good place to be.”
As more and more schools learn about the tough scoring guard that can score at all three levels at a high percentage, more offers will come for Johnson. We asked him which schools he is hearing from that has not offered and he said, “Temple, NC State, UVA, JMU, Radford, East Carolina, Radford, FIU.”
