As of today, practices can start on November 30th and the first games can be played on December 14th. Region 1 is full of talented ballers that will play at the next level. It will be an interesting season, to say the least. Expect a great year of hoops in Region 1.
Alphabetically, here are our players to watch in Region 1:
Cruz Hernandez (2023) |5-10 G| Hankinson – Smart player with a high basketball IQ. Cruz’s outside shot has improved tremendously over the past year. He has great handles and can get to the rim with his quickness. Look for him to be one of the top young guards in Region 1.
Gavin Keller Gavin Keller 6'9" | PF Kindred | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-9 F| Kindred – A legit back-to-the-basket post who can score from the block. He has solid footwork. Gavin can stretch the floor and has developed a nice jumper. His length makes him a rim protector. Look for him to be one of the top frontcourt players in North Dakota this year.
Gus Hurlburt Gus Hurlburt 6'9" | PF Enderlin | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-8 F| Enderlin – A player who can score from all over the court. Gus can score from the post, mid-range, and hit 3’s. He has had offers from multiple D1 schools across the country. He is a versatile defender that can lock-down 2-5. Look for him to be an All-State player this year.
Jase Crockett Jase Crockett 5'10" | PG Northern Cass | 2021 State ND (2021) |5-8 G| Northern Cass – Scorer from all 3 levels. He can best be described as a “Gym-Rat”. Jace can distribute the ball on O and lock-up on D. Look for him to be in the running for Region-1 Senior Athlete of the year.
Joe Hurlburt Joe Hurlburt 6'10" | PF Enderlin | 2022 State #147 Nation MN (2022) |6-10 F| Enderlin – All-around player who does it all. He has gained national attention with multiple D1 offers. Joe is a great rebounder who should lead the State in that stat-line. A true scorer who can hurt teams from anywhere on the court. Look for him to be one of the elite players in the State.
Josh Dixon (2021) |6-5 F| Central Cass – Selfless player that makes everyone around him better. He is crafty on the block, with the strength and size to finish around the cup. Josh will be one of the top rebounders in Region 1. Look for him to be in the running for Region-1 Senior Athlete of the year.
Kolby VanderWal (2021) |6-1 G| Northern Cass – One of the premier perimeter defenders in the State. He locks up the opposing team’s top player every night. Kolby is an athletic guard that has improved his game on the offensive end. Look for him to be an All-Region player.
Max Kobbervig Max Kobbervig 5'10" | PG Central Cass | 2021 State ND (2021) |5-10 G| Central Cass – A seasoned veteran who has been running the show for four years at Central Cass. Max is a problematic defender with quick hands and feet. He is a true floor general that takes care of the ball and distributes. He has improved his strength which will help him finish in traffic. Look for him to be one of the best point-guards in Region 1.
Noah Swenson Noah Swenson 6'5" | PF Oak Grove | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-5 F| Oak Grove – He produces a double-double every game. Noah has great feet and patience on the offensive end. He has improved his outside shooting. His anticipation and long arms have made him into a solid shot-blocker. Look for him to be in the running for Region-1 Senior Athlete of the year.
Preston Bohnestingl (2021) |6-1 G| Wyndmere/Lidgerwood – A topflight shooter who can fill it up from deep. He can create his own shot, moves well off the ball, and uses screens effectively. His strength has improved which will help him finish through contact. Preston is a player that is never satisfied, he is always trying to improve his game. Look for him to be one of the top guards in the Region.
