In anticipation of this, we will be rolling out preview content over the next several weeks. Here is a look at the Preseason All-Sophomore Teams for Virginia Private Schools.
First Team
G – Mason So Mason So 6'1" | PG DeMatha | 2023 State MD
So impressed throughout his freshman campaign, and got better in the playoffs. He’ll be a fun player to watch as he develops.
G – DeShawn Harris-Smith DeShawn Harris-Smith 6'5" | SF Paul VI | 2023 State #53 Nation VA
Harris-Smith became a key rotation player from an early stage at PVI. His influence should only grow within the program.
G – Curtis Blair III Curtis Blair III 6'6" | SF Steward School | 2023 State #211 Nation VA
Blair has improved drastically in the last 12 months and appears to still just be scratching the surface. Steward’s main man should thrive this season given his added responsibilities.
F – Steven Stinson Steven Stinson 6'5" | SF John Marshall | 2023 State VA
Stinson doesn’t look like your average sophomore because he’s sturdily built, and he doesn’t play like one either because his feel for the game is advanced. He was a no-brainer to make the first team.
C – Carter Lang Carter Lang 6'9" | C St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State #199 Nation VA
Lang has looked good during the offseason and is headed in the right direction. He’ll be an important player for STAB this year and beyond.
Second Team
G – Jayden Harris
Harris has a chance to make serious noise with Christ Chapel this season. He’s got all the tools to be a premier scoring threat in the DMV, but his defensive versatility should not be overlooked.
G – Khalil Williams Khalil Williams 6'5" | SG Potomac (McLean, VA) | 2023 State VA
Williams has asserted himself as a potent weapon from behind the arc. His confidence is sky-high right now and he appears poised for a breakout.
F – Desmond Roberts Desmond Roberts 6'5" | SF St Anne’s Belfield | 2023 State VA
Roberts played significant minutes for VES as a freshman. He’s part of an intriguing young core that has a chance to be very good collectively.
F – Luke Smith Luke Smith 6'9" | C Collegiate | 2023 State VA
Smith is the type of big man you can build an offense around. Double-doubles should become a norm for him at Collegiate moving forward.
C – Eli DeLaurier
DeLaurier has been making a statement with his performances at various showcase events this fall. His effort is his main selling point and that will translate.
Third Team
G – Robby Matos
Matos is another nice young prospect coming up at VES. He’s an explosive athlete who is a difference-maker on both ends.
G – Samuel Brannen Samuel Brannen 6'0" | CG King’s Fork | 2023 State VA
Brannen is expected to see an uptick in usage, and he seems ready to absorb the added responsibility. Look for the high IQ lead guard to step up.
G – Stark Jones Stark Jones 6'3" | CG Cave Spring | 2023 State VA
Jones shined for Roanoke Catholic as a freshman. He’s established himself as a name to monitor from Southwest Virginia.
G – Marvin Brimage
Brimage is a big guard who will have a chance to contribute at Bishop Ireton. He has a lot of talent and it will be interesting to see how he handles the expectations.
C – Patrick O’Brien Patrick O’Brien 6'8" | C Bishop O'Connell | 2023 State VA
O’Brien is considered one of the better bigs locally in his class. He’ll be a must-watch player at Highland.
