In anticipation of this, we will be rolling out preview content over the next several weeks. Here is a look at the Preseason All-Junior Teams for Virginia Private Schools.
First Team
G – Knasir McDaniel Knasir McDaniel 5'9" | PG Paul VI Cathlolic (VA) | 2022 State #126 Nation VA
McDaniel has hit the ground running since being handed the keys to the offense during his impressive freshman campaign. The lead guard continues to refine his game and will once again be a must-see player.
G – Paul Lewis Paul Lewis 6'1" | PG Bishop O'Connell | 2022 State VA
Lewis is a supremely confident player who can dominate a game by scoring 30 on a given night but can also do so by handing out 10 dimes on another. He’ll continue to lead an improving O’Connell squad.
F – Justin Taylor Justin Taylor 6'5" | SG IMG Academy | 2022 State #156 Nation FL
Taylor has turned in consistently strong performances at the various showcase events he’s participated in throughout the fall. The budding wing prospect continues to reinforce his high major credentials and show why he’s one of the most sought after players in the state.
F – Greg Melvin Greg Melvin 6'7" | PF Cape Henry | 2022 State VA
Melvin’s body has transformed and his game has along with it. The versatile combo forward will be asked to play a significant role on both ends of the floor for Coach Hall on a nightly basis.
F – Maliq Brown Maliq Brown 6'8" | PF Blue Ridge | 2022 State #123 Nation VA
Brown was an easy pick to round out the starting five on the first team. His impact at Blue Ridge has been nothing short of enormous.
Second Team
G – Saxby Sunderland Saxby Sunderland 6'2" | CG Flint Hill | 2022 State VA
Sunderland continued to gain valuable experience while logging heavy minutes as a primary ball-handler last year. That experience will go a long way as he is expected to be the team’s primary initiator once again this year.
G – Devin Ceaser Devin Ceaser 6'1" | CG St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2022 State VA
It will likely take Ceaser some time to get adjusted to his new situation at SSSAS, but there’s no doubting his potential. In transition will be the area where he should adjust quickest.
F – James Patterson James Patterson 6'2" | SG Meadowbrook | 2021 VA
Patterson is one of the best-kept secrets in the state, and he’s decided to take his talents to Carmel. The dynamic forward will probably command an integral role in the team from day one.
F – Houston Emory Houston Emory 6'10" | C Blue Ridge | 2022 State VA
Emory is the second of two talented young frontcourt prospects coming up in the Barons program. His presence is one reason why Blue Ridge is once again considered the favorite in Division 2.
C – David Onanina David Onanina 6'6" | PF Bishop O'Connell | 2022 State VA
Onanina is a walking double-double threat in the WCAC where small-ball has been prevalent of late. He has built up a nice rapport with Lewis in the pick-and-roll and will look to continue building that connection.
Third Team
G – Colin Ryan
Coach Del Harris is grooming Ryan into his point guard at Collegiate. He won’t wow you with his athleticism, but he brings high-quality intangibles to the table and can run a team efficiently.
G – Walker Andrews Walker Andrews 6'1" | CG Virginia Episcopal | 2022 State VA
Andrews is considered one of the premier shooters and playmakers in the state. He enjoyed a productive summer after an outstanding sophomore season and appears primed to build off the momentum he’s created.
G – Keishawn Pulley
Pulley is the type of guy who can impact the game in several ways. He can handle the ball some, is a good positional rebounder, and has the eye for a good pass. Coach Jones will be able to deploy him on many fronts where he can be effective.
F – Miles Webb
Webb has the chance to be a major force in the Saints’ frontcourt because of his length and athleticism in conjunction with increased minutes. Given their fast-paced style of play, this could potentially unlock a new level to his game.
F – Elliott Black
Black is an absolute powerhouse who will pair nicely with Webb on a new-look SSSAS squad. He will look to dominate foes in the paint each time he steps on the court and will have a good shot to do so.
