Last season, Bower helped lead Fruitland as a major contributor of points, rebounds, and minutes. During the upcoming season, Nolan will look to help the Grizzlies make a run at their district tournament and the hopes of making an appearance at the state tournament and competing for a state title. Continue reading for a breakdown of Nolan’s skills and abilities on both sides of the ball ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Defense: Nolan is a solid defender for the Grizzlies. At 6’8″, Bower holds down the middle and has great size that he uses to his advantage. He is a strong player with long arms that he uses to push posts off of the block or contest shots from guards in the lane. He is an excellent shot blocker and has great timing when he chooses to jump to try and block shots. When he leaves the paint, Nolan has solid lateral quickness and he can keep guards in front when he has to switch after a ball screen. He can contest their shots from the perimeter by extending a hand and he does a great job of guarding whoever he needs to. As a rebounder, Bower is a force and scoops up any boards that bounce his way on both offense and defense.
Offense: Bower is a great offensive talent for Fruitland. His best work comes down low and he has excellent footwork in the post. He is patient and takes his time before dribbling to get himself into the best position to score. He has great touch around the rim and can finish with either hand. One of his greatest offensive strengths is attempting to grab offensive rebounds on each possession. He fights for inside positioning and attacks the glass with two hands. He has a mid-range jumper that he can use from time to time but prefers to work out of the block. He is a big body and he sets hard screens on the perimeter before rolling to the basket. As a passer, Bower has excellent court vision and is willing to pass out of the post to re-seal, or kick to the open shooter for an easy bucket.
Overall: Altogether, Bower is a great player that will help Fruitland a lot this year. On defense, he holds down the middle and makes sure to contest any shots taken in the paint. On offense, he finishes well at the rim and crashes the offensive glass hard. He would make an excellent 4 or 5 at the next level.
