Last season, Mitchell played a big role for Lake City and he will look to expand his role with the squad as he also improves his skill. In the upcoming season, Kolton will look to help lead the Timberwolves to a district title and a shot at the state tournament championship in March. Continue reading for a breakdown of Kolton’s skills and abilities ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Defense: Mitchell is a solid defender for the Timberwolves. He is a hard-nosed defender who pressures the ball throughout the duration of a game and he is willing to pick up his man 94-feet from the goal. He has a great sense of where the ball will be going next and he routinely jumps the passing lanes for easy steals and the start of a fast break. Mitchell has shown his ability to pressure any ball handler and he does not back down against older competition. Against bigs, Kolton fights hard and holds his own. As he grows, puts on some size and strength, and continues to improve, he will be able to guard bigs with ease and use physicality to his advantage. Mitchell likes to crash the board and he can collect easy rebounds once the bigs box out and leave a lane for him to scoop the ball.
Offense: Kolton is an exceptional offensive talent for Lake City. From outside, Mitchell is a knockdown shooter that constantly puts pressure on the defense to have to guard him well beyond the arch. His shot looks slightly unorthodox, but he should be able to remove the hitch as he gains more upper body strength. He shoots off the dribble, on a catch-and-shoot, and has proven his ability to shoot on the move. He drives hard to the basket and can finish with either hand at the rim. If not, he has a great pull-up jumper and he rises over defenders for a floater. He has great handles and can crossover with the best of them. Kolton is a willing passer that loves to throw tough bounce passes on backdoor cuts or in transition. Tremendous vision and passing ability for his age.
Overall: Altogether, Kolton is a great player for the Timberwolves. He is a tough defender that is willing to guard anyone. Offensively, he is talented in all areas and has a lot of potential. Kolton would make a great 1 or 2 guard at the next level.
