PDE’s Preseason Picks: Class 4A All-state Team
In this article:
Louisiana’s class 4A is the most hotly contested class of all the classifications. The schools and the athletes in this class are some of the top names and programs that are on the prep scene. Needless to say, these preseason picks were some of the hardest to make. With the wealth of quality players in this class, this will be the hardest team for the sportswriters to choose.
1st Team (In alphabetical order)
Joe Charles (6’7″ Senior / Carencro)
Carter Domingue Carter Domingue 6'3" | PG St. Thomas More | 2021 State LA (6’3″ Senior / St. Thomas More)
JonQuarius McGhee JonQuarius McGhee 6'3" | CG Opelousas | 2021 State LA (6’4″ Senior / Opelousas)
Jamond Vincent Jamond Vincent 6'2" | SG Landry-Walker | 2021 State LA (6’2″ Senior / L.B. Landry)
Solomon Washington Solomon Washington 6'7" | SF Carver | 2022 State #127 Nation LA (6’6″ Junior / Carver)
Carter Domingue Carter Domingue 6'3" | PG St. Thomas More | 2021 State LA was first team all-state and district MVP last season. While he will be pushed by his teammate on the 2nd team (hint), Domingue should be first team again. His leadership skills mixed with his jumper and basketball IQ should help him garner the placement. I really cannot believe that Jamond Vincent Jamond Vincent 6'2" | SG Landry-Walker | 2021 State LA is a senior. It seems like yesterday when he was playing in the 5A championship game. Now, the UNO-commit will attempt to win one in class 4A. With the squad riding with him, he might just finish the deal this year.
JonQuarius McGhee JonQuarius McGhee 6'3" | CG Opelousas | 2021 State LA has been one of the most improved recruits in the state. The Nicholls State-commit has the game to lead his team to Marsh Madness. After last year’s disappointment, McGhee should be prized and ready for a deep run. Solomon Washington Solomon Washington 6'7" | SF Carver | 2022 State #127 Nation LA has the game to be the defensive MVP (if there was one) in the class and the most outstanding player. Carver will push for a second consecutive trip to Lake Chales and Washington will be the conductor on that train. Joe Charles will bounce all the way back from his knee injury and have a season to remember. With Coach Kovatch putting Charles in areas to be successful, I believe Joe takes that big chip on his shoulder and shows the rest of class 4A he is about business.
2nd Team (In alphabetical order)
Dorian Finister Dorian Finister 6'5" | CG Carver | 2022 State #173 Nation LA (6’5″ Junior / Carver)
Jaden Tyler Jaden Tyler 6'0" | CG Assumption | 2021 State LA (6’1″ Senior / Assumption)
Delatrion Moton Delatrion Moton 6'4" | CG Woodlawn-Shreve | 2021 State LA (6’4″ Senior / Woodlawn-Shreveport)
Jaden Shelvin Jaden Shelvin 6'2" | CG St. Thomas More | 2021 State LA (6’2″ Senior / St. Thomas More)
Dionjahe Thomas Dionjahe Thomas 6'8" | PF Ellender | 2022 TX (6’8″ Junior / Ellender)
Dorian Finister Dorian Finister 6'5" | CG Carver | 2022 State #173 Nation LA is one of the more exciting players in the open floor regardless of class. He did his fair share of scoring last season and should have an uptick with more responsibility this year. Honorable mention last season. Second team this year. Jaden Tyler Jaden Tyler 6'0" | CG Assumption | 2021 State LA made the second team the previous two seasons. He has first team game but the talent is so rich in this class that he may land on the 2nd team yet again.
Dionjahe Thomas Dionjahe Thomas 6'8" | PF Ellender | 2022 TX made the second team during his sophomore season at Ellender. His numbers may see an improvement but I think he will still land on the second team. Jaden Shelvin Jaden Shelvin 6'2" | CG St. Thomas More | 2021 State LA may replace his teammate on the first team. He and Domingue make such a tough duo and they play both ends. I think second team. However, he could be district MVP and make the first team easily. Delatrion Moton Delatrion Moton 6'4" | CG Woodlawn-Shreve | 2021 State LA may be part of a Knight deep playoff run in football and miss a chunk of the season. He is a leader and big game player though which I believe will be enough to land him on the second team.
Others to consider:
Rayshun McCullar Rayshun McCullar 6'1" | PG Huntington | 2022 State LA (6’1″ Junior / Assumption) – He did not make any of the three teams last year which seemed odd especially with Huntington’s success. McCuller will push for first or second though and has the game to do it.
Avontez Ledet Avontez Ledet 6'3" | CG Cecilia | 2021 State LA (6’3″ Senior / Cecilia) – One of the best shooters in the state who has the greenlight to shoot anytime. The Lamar signee will make it hard to keep him off one of these teams by season’s finish.
Jamaar Moore Jamaar Moore 6'1" | CG Washington-Marion | 2021 State LA (6’1″ Senior / Washington-Marion) – One of the best two-way players in the Boot will have numbers in every statistical category to be apart of the discussion. It may be enough. We will have to wait and see.
Devon’drake Arvie Devon’drake Arvie 6'2" | CG Beau Chene | 2022 State LA (6’1″ Junior / Beau Chene) – The Beau Chene guard is another player who fills up the stat sheet. Look for him to push very hard to make one of these squads.
Patrick McCraney Patrick McCraney 6'2" | CG Neville | 2022 State LA (6’1″ Junior / Neville) – The 4A MVP should have another stellar season. Neville plays a tough schedule so he will have ample opportunity to show what he can do against top tier competition.
Amauri Coleman Amauri Coleman 6'0" | CG Peabody | 2021 State LA (6’2″ Senior / Peabody) – A Peabody guard has to be on the list at some point. Coleman can defend and shoot at a high level. We will see if it is enough to be on the first or second team.
