Below we will take a closer look at players based on the west coast who took part in the event and breakdown their performances, with the first piece honing in on Californa-based prospects.
Kenneth Simpson, Jr. Kenneth Simpson, Jr. 6'2" | CG Chaminade | 2021 State #97 Nation CA-S , Chaminade – One thing you can always count on with Simpson is he’s coming to the event to compete and win. The fearless 6-foot-2 combo guard plays with an aggressive and confident mentality no matter who is in front of him and that’s what he did in the Pangos All-American Festival. Simpson used his transition speed and physicality to get into the paint on the break and finish through and around contact. Defensively, the Arizona-signee helped the West team change the momentum on that end of the floor with his on-ball pressure, quick hands and toughness.
TJ Wainwright TJ Wainwright 6'3" | SG Westchester | 2021 State CA-S , Westchester – Wainwright has been lauded for his shooting over the course of his three year high school career and rightfully so. The 6-foot-3 lefty sharpshooter continued to stroke the three-point shot off the catch at a high rate and with deep range, but it was good to see him continue to grow more confident with his playmaking off the bounce for teammates. Wainwright is yet to sign with a college program at this point and remains one of the top unsigned seniors in the state.
Jahmai Mashack Jahmai Mashack 6'3" | SG Etiwanda | 2021 State #68 Nation CA-S , Etiwanda – Mashack, though a west coast product, played with the South squad in this event based on his signing to play collegiately at the University of Tennessee. The 6-foot-4 wing/guard is one of the elite perimeter defenders and intangible guys in the country and his impact in those departments was on full display. Mashack can do a little bit of everything well from ball pressure to help-side defense to defensive rebounding and knocking down open three-point and mid-range jumpers.
