Below we will take a closer look at the midwest players who took part in the event and breakdown their performances and overall game.
Ahamad Bynum Ahamad Bynum 6'2" | SG Simeon | 2021 State #94 Nation IL , Simeon (IL) – Bynum brought the prototypical Chicago-style of hoops to the this event in the sense that he plays with confidence, toughness, physicality and isn’t afraid to attack anyone on the offensive end. Bynum, who is committed to DePaul, scores in bunches from all three levels of the floor with efficiency. The 6-foot-3 combo guard can hit the catch-and-shoot and step-back three point shots, but is also great in transition where he uses his strength and downhill speed to get to the rim and finish.
Kobe Bufkin Kobe Bufkin 6'4" | SG Grand Rapids Christian | 2021 State #71 Nation MI , Grand Rapids Christian (MI) – The smooth and crafty lefty has a really nice overall feel for the game. Bufkin is great in both transition and half-court settings as his court vision and willingness to advance the ball makes a positive impact on the break while his shooting ability and navigation of ball-screen action opens up the court for himself and teammates when the game slows down.
Brandon Weston Brandon Weston 6'6" | SF Hillcrest Prep | 2021 State #60 Nation AZ , Hillcrest Prep (AZ) – The Chicago-native made the move out west to play at Hillcrest, but suited up for the Midwest squad in this event. The 6-foot-5 wing has a deep scoring arsenal which includes a smooth and feathery touch from the mid-range level to go along with great lift and consistency on his catch-and-shoot three-point shot. The Seton Hall-commit understands how to get to his spots, and once he does that, there’s little a defender can to do stop him from getting a good shot off.
Malaki Branham Malaki Branham 6'5" | SG St. Vincent-St. Mary | 2021 State #26 Nation OH , St. Vincent-St. Mary (OH) – Branham is an impressive transition athlete and finisher who attacks the basket with an no-nonsense mentality and looks to put defenders in the rim. The Ohio State-bound guard has a college-ready frame that allows him to absorb and finish through contact around the basket. Branham’s knack for pursuing the ball on the offensive glass, creating second-chance opportunities for his team, and high motor on both ends bodes well for him earning early playing time at the next level.
