The ability to play in front of coaches has been hard to come by with the pandemic going on. The 2023 class took advantage of that as the prospects in attendance played well, despite going against older competition. Here are the top 2023 standouts from the Olympus College Showcase.
Ifeoluwa Okebiorun Ifeoluwa Okebiorun 6'6" | PF St. Augustine | 2023 State NJ , 6’6 PF St. Augustine
Okebiorun had a strong showing over the showcase as he proved his dominance down low. The 6’6 forward attacked the basket with a purpose and finished above the rim on multiple occasions. Okebiorun set good screens in the half court and knows how to get position down low. He works hard on both ends of the floor and uses his athleticism to swat shots. Okebiorun is a hard-working big man who has a bright future ahead of him.
Qiani Bowens, 5’9 PG Williamstown
Bowens was dynamic throughout the session as he was constantly getting to the rim. The 5’9 guard is lightning quick with the ball in his hands and is a good finisher around the rim. Bowens has a smooth handle and plays with his head up. He plays with quick hands on the defensive end and is a pest on the defense. Bowens’ ability to blow by his defender should give him an opportunity to contribute for Williamstown.
Jayden Lopez Jayden Lopez 5'10" | PG Atlantic Tech | 2023 State NJ , 5’8 PG Atlantic Tech
Lopez had a strong showing at the session as he proved his ability to run the show. The 5’8 guard has a good handle and rarely plays like he’s out of control. Lopez knows how to finish around the rim and is unafraid of drawing contact. He worked tirelessly on the defensive end and hustled for almost every loose ball throughout the night. Lopez is a gritty lead guard who should have a strong sophomore campaign for Atlantic Tech.
Jamil Wilkins, 6’1 SG Holy Spirit
Wilkins had a good showing throughout the showcase as he was able to show his total skillset. The lanky 6’1 guard has a good handle and is capable of beating his defender off the bounce. Wilkins was able to make several nice finishes around the basket, but also has the athleticism to finish above the rim. He used his length on the defensive end to make plays and made several nice passes during the session. Wilkins is a talented guard prospect who should continue to get better throughout the season for Holy Spirit.
Azmir Kates, 6’1 CG Vineland
Kates was in attack mode from the beginning of the night. The 6’1 guard attacked the bucket with a purpose and was unafraid of drawing contact on his way to the hole. Kates was able to get to his post off the bounce and shot the ball with confidence. He was active on the defensive side of the ball and made several good passes during the live sessions. Kates’ aggressiveness while attacking the basket is something that should benefit him this season for Vineland.
