Zion, Sunrise Christian Academy, Massanutten Military Academy, International Sports Academy, Central Pointe, Spire Academy, Black Panthers (St. Frances) and Our Family (team made up of players from Poly).
Over the early portion of this week, I’ll be releasing some scouting info from the action I took in. I was in attendance for the Friday night game where Mt. Zion defeated ISA and was there for the entire Saturday slate.

We now move on to the wings.
Kwame Evans Kwame Evans 6'9" | SF Montverde | 2023 State #20 Nation FL | 6’8 | Our Family ’23
I’ve been fortunate to see Evans over a dozen times over the calendar year. This was by far the best I’ve seen him play. Evans, who is regarded as a top five player in his class nationally, came out from the start with a super aggressive mindset offensively. He was hunting for scoring opportunities with each catch and doing a nice job of finding the openings around the perimeter for penetrating teammates to kick out to. Despite his team coming up short against Spire Academy, Evans exploded for 31 points and shot at an efficient clip. He was a factor from all three levels and made it a point to finish above the rim whenever he could.
AJ Lopez AJ Lopez 6'5" | CG Mt. Zion Prep | 2021 State MD | 6’5 | Mt. Zion Prep ’21
Lopez had an outstanding weekend with three big performances in Mt. Zion’s wins over ISA, Sunrise Christian and Massanutten. His best performance in my opinion came against Sunrise Christian where he posted 18 points, cashed in on three triples and made big time plays around or above the rim to keep momentum in the Warriors’ favor. His shot comes off a bit funky, but when he’s feeling it, Lopez can really get it going. It opens up driving lanes for him to attack and get downhill, which is the strongest part of his game.
Rron Thaci | 6’5 | ISA
Thaci is a 6-foot-5 wing with smooth release on his jumper. He doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off and can get it going in a hurry. Thaci moves extremely well without the ball and despite not being very athletic, finishes at a solid rate on his shots at the rim. Thaci’s best performance came in ISA’s 1-point loss to Massanutten where he scored 17 points and was a factor from behind the arc and off the dribble attacking the basket.
Perry Robinson | 6’7 | Central Pointe ’21
Robinson displayed great versatility for his size. He consistently secured defensive rebounds and sparked the transition himself, sometimes taking the ball for coast-to-coast finishes. His mixture of size and athleticism made him difficult to match up with and his constant activity was rewarded with 50/50’s or offensive rebounds for second-shot opportunities. He scored 13 points in the loss against the Panthers.
Gary Grant | 6’6 | Sunrise Christian ’21
Sunrise had a tough weekend to say the least. As a team, they’re still working out quite a few kinks before putting it all together. With that being said, 6-foot-6 wing Gary Grant was a bright spot. Despite trailing Mt. Zion by almost 20 for the majority of the contest, Grant’s effort never waivered. He continued to stay aggressive attacking the basket, used his athleticism for multiple dunks and put in extra effort to haul in offensive rebounds.
Hassan Massenburg Hassan Massenburg 6'5" | SF New Hope | 2022 State MD | 6’6 | Mt. Zion Prep ’22
Massenburg seemed to find his groove and made a handful of big plays in the Warriors’ dominant win over Sunrise. When Massenburg is converting on jumpers, the value he can bring to the floor with his size makes his team much more dynamic. It also seems to play a role in him being more focused defensively. Both of these were the case and it contributed in a major way to Mt. Zion building and sustaining their commanding lead throughout the game.
