Continue ReadingBasketball players in Michigan are sort of stuck in a 3 week limbo due to the pandemic. Season is delayed for 3 weeks, but they players aren’t currently allowed to play in any showcases or camps. What if? What if Coach Dell Johnson (who did valiantly try to put on a showcase for the players during the delay) was allowed to run an event? An event similar to Let’s Get Ready would be lights out. What if Prep Hoops was allowed to put together a camp to keep players fresh? An event the likes of the Top 250 would be exciting to say the least. How about another David Barns Memorial type of camp? The talent would be there. Who would we have like to have seen at these camps or showcases? Well, here’s 10 players that I would have been itching to watch play.
Blake Lund Blake Lund 6'1" | CG Linden | 2021 State MI (2021, CG, Linden)
Lund is supremely underrated. The young man can do it all out of the backcourt. He’s a knockdown shooter, a stopper on D, a plus passer, and a true team leader. Scouts and college coaches need every opportunity available to see Lund hoop.
Keyon Menifield Keyon Menifield 6'2" | PG Flint Beecher | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Flint Beecher)
Menifield was absolutely lights out during the grassroots and showcase seasons. I’m not sure anyone was playing better state wide. He was a nasty ball handler and a consistent 3 level scorer. Quite simply, a D1 will be getting an absolute steal when they bring him in.
Aidan Rubio Aidan Rubio 6'6" | SF Goodrich | 2021 State MI (2021, SG, Goodrich)
Remember how I said that I wasn’t sure if anyone was playing better than Keyon Menifield Keyon Menifield 6'2" | PG Flint Beecher | 2021 State MI ? Well, Rubio has a good argument that there should be a tie at the top. He played with a chip on his shoulder all fall, making rims pay the price as he unleashed on the hoop.
Robert Davis Jr. Robert Davis Jr. 6'6" | SG Hamtramck | 2022 State MI (2022, SG, Farmington)
Davis Jr. is about to have a huge season, mark my words. He runs the floor with ease and has a pretty stroke from outside. Davis plays a fluid and intelligent game and never shy’s away from the big shot.
Nick Henry Nick Henry 6'7" | PF Caledonia | 2022 State MI (2022, PF, Caledonia)
Henry got me hooked at Let’s Get Ready. He was lights out in the paint. Henry showed an understanding of how to work off his guards to get high percentage looks at the rim. He was so active offensively and paired very well with drive and dish guards.
Jack Karasinski Jack Karasinski 6'5" | SF Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2022 State MI (2022, SF, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
Karasinski sort of quietly rose his stock up in Grand Rapids. He cemented himself as an elite D1 prospect in Michigan’s class of 2022. Karasinski was a versatile scorer off the wing all summer long. He proved the he’s underrated as an all around athlete as well.
Kyler Vanderjagt Kyler Vanderjagt 6'4" | 195 lbs | SF Northview | 2022 State MI (2022, SG, Northview)
I always want to see Vanderjagt play. He’s learned how to use his superior strength when driving to the rim, bulldogging past his man and keeping them on his hip. Vanderjagt’s pull up jumper has become lethal as well. The young man has a big time future.
John Blackwell John Blackwell 6'3" | CG Brother Rice | 2023 State #185 Nation MI (SG, Brother Rice)
Blackwell is as dynamic as they come and college coaches should flock to see him play. He’s naturally aggressive offensively and can find and create looks at the rim. Blackwell is sneakily versatile as well, having the ability to handle and possibly even slide to the point.
Timothy Kewley Timothy Kewley 6'7" | PF Romeo | 2023 State MI (2023, PF, Romeo)
Kewley is a big to watch in the sophomore class. The tools are all there for him to play at the next level someday. I really look forward to watching Kewley develop his game over the next couple of years.
Michael Sulaka Michael Sulaka 6'8" | C Warren De La Salle | 2023 State MI (2023, C, Warren De La Salle)
Old fashioned basketball enthusiasts will want to see Saluka play. He plays much bigger than his height, and will never back down to a matchup with a taller big in the paint. Saluka fights for position under the rim and is relentless when chasing down a rebound.
