Here’s a look at some of the players who stood out to me.
1. Devean Williams – Narbonne 2021
Williams is a very talented wing who has already heard from several colleges both in state and out of state. He’s an unselfish player who can do a little playmaking and look for his teammates in halfcourt sets. Can draw the defense and kick out to shooters. He’s comfortable creating for himself too and he reads the defense well and adjusts; a patient player. He can also move without the ball and make cuts around the rim.
2. Chris Nickelberry Chris Nickelberry 5'10" | PG Damien | 2021 State CA-S – Damian 2022
Nickelberry is a player I tabbed over the summer as being a potential breakout player and he’s on his way to becoming that. He’s a point guard and a crafty ball-handler. Quick off the dribble and get to his spots on the court. He can shoot off the bounce or get to the rim. Can finish with contact and can finish around bigger defenders. A very unselfish player who looks for his teammates. Good defender too.
3. Brendan Terry Brendan Terry 6'6" | PF Crossroads | 2021 State CA-S – Crossroads 2021
Terry is a player who’s college recruitment has picked up a bit. He’s a very versatile player who is looking much more comfortable with the ball in his hands and making plays. Almost like a point forward with the way he sees the court. He’s much more comfortable taking threes and making them with consistency. He’s always had the tools be a good defender, but his help defense is very good now and so is his communication on the court.
4. Blake Brewer – Mater Dei 2022
Brewer is very active around the rim and in the paint. He’s kind of a wing, but he has some skill in the post as well. He has good footwork in the paint and can finish strong at the rim. Needs to keep the ball high when looking to finish. He fights for rebounds and he’s a pretty good interior defender. He protects the paint defensively; he can block shots and contests/alters the shot of any player who comes into the lane.
