This week, we will release scouting reports of the players that impressed us at each position group in Phoenix, continuing today with forwards:
Marquis Cook Marquis Cook 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #6 Nation AZ (2023 Jefferson)
As perhaps the top run and jump athlete in the grouping, Cook stood out on multiple occasions with vicious, rim-rocking dunks. Just a freshman, the 6-foot-7 combo forward obviously has lots of room to improve, but his performances in Phoenix were astounding nonetheless. Throughout the trip, Cook was consistently among USBA’s top scorers, most notably in their final matchup against Dream City Christian, one of the top teams in the field. Cook’s sprinkles of high-flying athleticism became heavy doses that night, as he threw down at least three poster-esque dunks on his way to 22 points, five rebounds, one assist, and two blocks. Leading his team in scoring in a hard fought battle with one of the nation’s top teams, Cook certainly proved himself as one of the country’s top sophomores in both this final game and throughout the circuit.
Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge 6'7" | PF Jefferson | 2021 #228 Nation OR (2021 Jefferson)
Rawlins-Kibonge, Cook’s Jefferson teammate, was quite a force inside for USBA throughout the trip. A consistent starter, the Oklahoma football commit made himself felt on both ends, finishing plays inside and rebounding well in nearly each matchup. At 6-foot-7, Rawlins-Kibonge is a tad short for a Division-I power forward, but his grit and athleticism make up for what he lacks in size at this high level of play. In a matchup against AZ Compass Prep, Rawins-Kibonge poured in a formidable 12 points to go alongside four rebounds and a block. By the end of the circuit, the dual-sport athlete was clearly one of USBA’s standout performers.
Mike Sharavjamts (2022 Mongolia/Prolific Prep)
Although Sharavjamts played a reserved role for the talented USBA squad, his sheer size and unique skill set caught our eye in Phoenix. At 6-foot-7, Sharavjamts possesses tremendous ball-handling and shooting for his size, making him a very intriguing prospect moving forward. In The Grind Session opener, Sharavjamts knocked down his only good look from three and looked composed and mobile for a player of his size on the perimeter. Earlier this year, the lengthy small forward picked up his first Division-1 offer from Eastern Washington.
