The event saw tons of talent from all over the state, and saw many standouts that we both knew about and some new ones as well.
We take a crack at making All Series Teams, and it was very tough with the amount of talent in the event. The criteria was that the player had to play in at least four games in the event, eliminating a few very good performances from guys who only played in one of the sessions.
Here’s a look at our choices for First Team All CBG Fall Series, with 7 guys who deserve all the attention they’re getting now.
Allen Strothers Allen Strothers 6'2" | PG Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’2” PG | Hard 2 Guard 2021
13.8 PPG, 4.5 APG (1st in Series)
Strothers was one of the biggest stock risers in the event, especially in the senior class as he picked up offers from Troy and ETSU after his performances. In week one he showed his playmaking ability, in week two he showed his scoring ability and in week 3 he found the perfect blend of them. The lead guard has great physical and athletic tools as well, and he’s only going to get better once he gets to college.
Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson 6'4" | NA lbs | SG Grissom | 2022 State #NA Nation AL | 6’4” G | Chesapeake Jaguars 2022
18 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.4 APG, 2.3 SPG
In the 2022 class, Johnson may have done the most for him stock wise, and while no offers have come for him he’s seen the likes of Temple, Lehigh, VCU and others start to show interest in him. An all-around combo guard, Johnson scored the ball fantastically and showed his ability to create his own shot, but he also showed improvements in his ability to make plays for others and his instincts and ability to shoot passing lanes defensively. He’s set to be one of the top guards in the 757 and will see many colleges coming his way soon.
DJ Hand | 6’5” G | CBG 757 VB 2022
21 PPG, 5.3 RPG
Hand was one of the best scorers in the entire event, and his numbers would have been higher except he didn’t play much in their blowout win over Fastbreak in his last game of the series. Hand had outings of 31, 24 and 16 against very good teams, and he showed that he can make contested shots from all over and can both create for himself and work off the ball to get open. He has good size and a great all-around skill set, and he showed why he’s considered one of the top guards in the country in the 2022 class.
Tyler Nickel Tyler Nickel 6'8" | SF East Rockingham | 2022 State #85 Nation VA | 6’7” WF | VA Blaze 2022
23.2 PPG (1st in Series), 7.8 RPG
Nickel was the leading scorer of the event and played in all 6 games for Blaze, and he went out with a bang as he scored 41 points in his final game in a win over Nova Cavs. The 6’7” wing scored in double figures every game as he had games of 41, 25, 21, 18, 17 and 17, and he was second in rebounds per game as well. The smooth shooting wing showed he can play at the highest of levels, and he picked up offers from Indiana and Cincinnati after his play.
Justin Taylor Justin Taylor 6'5" | SG IMG Academy | 2022 State #156 Nation FL | 6’6” WG | CBG 434 2022
14.2 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 3.0 APG
Taylor was a guy who was set to blow up this summer after gaining national recognition last year, but without the AAU scene he used the CBG Fall Series to show that the hype is real. Everything about Taylor’s game translates from his size and length, his underrated athleticism and his shot making ability at his size from all over the court. He’s a lights out shooter from deep, he can handle and create for himself and others and he improves every time you see him play.
Quentin Livingston Quentin Livingston 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WF | Team Suffolk 2021
19.3 PPG (74% FG), 4.1 RPG
Livingston was one of the most energetic and efficient players throughout the series, as he came into the second session and averaged 20 points and 7 rebounds while going 13-for-16 from the field and 5-for-6 from deep in his first two games. He continued that level of play in the third session and he showed his versatility as a wing who can handle it, score, defend and rebound at a high rate. He showed he’s one of the most underrated and under recruited guys in the state, and he will make someone very happy when they take a chance on him.
Carter Lang Carter Lang 6'9" | C St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State #199 Nation VA | 6’9” PF | CBG 434 2023
15 PPG, 10.5 RPG (1st in Series), 1.3 BPG
Lang showed that he’s possibly the best big man in the 2023 class, as he had a huge breakout performance throughout the Fall Series averaging a double-double and being one of the best rim protectors as well. Lang is a guy who works very hard and it shows in his game, as he improves in multiple facets every time I watch him play. The 6’9” post plays with a great motor and attacks the glass on both ends, he has good touch and has improved on his range and he was one of the most efficient guys in the entire series.
