DeLaSalle’s trio of Evan Boyd Evan Boyd 6'2" | SG DeLaSalle | 2021 State MN , Cade Haskins Cade Haskins 6'6" | SF Delasalle | 2021 State MN , and Keijuan White Keijuan White 6'0" | SG DeLaSalle | 2021 State MN have been a part of the DeLaSalle rotation for three seasons and they’ve earned one state title in that time (working on their second in three seasons this year). With last year’s season cancelled a week before the state tournament, that makes the Islanders once again the defending champions of Class AAA. And they are of course planning on defending their crown (or crowns considering they’ve won seven of the last eight).
“One goal I have for the team is section champs and hopefully if we have the state tournament, then state champs too,” Evan told Prep Hoops.
Boyd is working hard to prepare for this season and one of his goals is to be a leader. Boyd has everything needed to be a leader: he’s a high quality student, he’s a veteran of multiple years, and Evan has been in a few roles during his career.
“I want to be able to step into a leadership role being a senior and be able to help lead our team to win games,” Boyd said.
“I’ve been working out at a facility in Eden Prairie working on my strength and speed as well as my conditioning. I’ve been also working out with one of my old AAU coaches, getting shots up, and keeping my handles tight and ready for the season.”
As for the Islanders they have the three seniors back as starters (White, Haskins, and Boyd). DeLaSalle will score, they will win, and you know they will uphold tradition and be in your face on D.
“The team is looking real good,” Boyd said. “We got some good seniors returning, and juniors and sophomores ready to step up. We’ll be really deep and great defensively.”
Boyd also has to think about next year in terms of college basketball. Three teams are showing the most interest at the moment.
“I’ve been hearing from Lake Region State, St. Scholastica, and Southwestern CC (IA) the most right now,” Boyd explained. “My main focus is the winter season and showcasing what I can do and I hope to pick up a few offers then go from there.”
