Continue ReadingThis past weekend action in the 2020 Competitive Edge High School Fall League featured the final regular season games on Saturday and playoff games on Sunday. Needless to say the intensity was dialed up several notches and thus the runs were extremely entertaining to watch.
Below is a look at a few of the prospects who played well during Week 8 contests in the Competitive Edge High School Fall League.
Daniel Alcantara – 6’4’’ / Junior / Reading / Shooting Guard: By all estimations (score table was not tracking individual points), Alcantara posted a 30-point game on Sunday morning. He is an elite scorer at all three levels. Alcantara wasn’t just the best athlete in the Reading vs. Radnor playoff game, he was most likely the most athletic baller in this league. The junior owns an enormous wingspan, next level quickness and jaw dropping hops. A chase down, spike-off-the-backboard block and a tomahawk flush highlighted his impressive performance on Sunday. Alcantara will be a program defining player at the collegiate level.
Matt Compas Matt Compas 6'3" | CG Wissahickon | 2021 State PA – 6’2” / Senior / Wissahickon / Combo Guard: Compas is an extremely athletic, lefty combo guard who shot it well and finished in traffic with authority. Playing predominantly point guard on Saturday, Compas was excellent at pushing the ball in transition. At the defensive end, his on-ball pressure was impressive and he forced a number of TOs. Compas played with a ton of energy and extra spring in his legs. He told me he is hearing from a number of schools including Millersville, Marywood and Lincoln.
Nelson Lamizana – 6’5” / Freshman / WC Henderson / Forward: Lamazina appeared in one of these write ups several weeks ago and the 2024 forward has improved since that time. His offensive skills (especially his footwork) remain raw, but he played much more aggressively this past Saturday and was not afraid to take advantage of his scoring chances. The freshman is athletic and ran the floor well. He did a nice job protecting the rim and of course grabbed a host of rebounds.
Argel “IV” Pettit – 6’2” / Junior / Devon Prep / Combo Guard: The former West Chester Rustin standout used the 3-ball and his ability to score off the bounce to lead Devon Prep to victory in the Competitive Edge High School Fall League championship game on Sunday. Pettit displayed unmatched quickness and the ability to find an open teammate complimented his scoring skills nicely. Pettit has quickly become one of the elite combo guards in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Junior Yilijap – 6’7” / Senior/ Great Valley / Center: An interior player with length for days, Yilijap ran the floor very well and displayed a solid offensive skill set. Operating mostly around the free throw line area, Yilijap flashed excellent passing skills and the ability to score off the dribble. A quick second jumps and a nose for the ball, allowed Yilijap to convert on a number of 2nd chance scoring opportunities.
